Big old swell rolling through yesterday!! 🌊

We steamed nose on to the big swell and heading up north again, in search of some tidal run over the tops of the banks. We knew the day would come good, it was just a waiting game before the flood calmed it all down.

It looked like another day of the youngsters showing the adults how to do with a stonking bass coming in over the rail in the first 45 mins.

A proper thick fish. It bent the rod over and kept it over, taking line and giving a real account for itself. It surfaced 10 metres from the boat before another decent run, and then surfacing into the net.

‘Reel’ excitement to start the day off 😂

After that it was a hard days fishing. Plenty of bites but many lost, and a smattering of smaller bass and hounds throughout the day.

The crew held in there and fished well, only a couple of tablets needed 😂. The Fugit handles the rough stuff very well for a smaller vessel, always feeling safe and punches through waves well above her weight.

Mixed bag today…

What an absolute pleasure today’s crew were - a father and son team of new boat owners at Shotley Marina who came out to see what the local fishing is all about.

We pushed up north for the ebb this morning to sit over one of the large banks that switches on this time of year. A couple of quick hounds over the rail before slack hit.

Today was a tiny tide so we were chasing more water movement than a tiny trickle moving past the boat.

Sitting over a ridge we had a great afternoon, plenty of species over the rail and a proper mixed session with some good fish.

Decent 59cm bass being the biggest of the day 🐟

The lads gained knowledge of the local area / tides etc and will have confidence to push out on their own boat more.

Happy days 😎😊

A tough, but decent old week on The Fugit

Fitted as many trips in as physically possible this week (hence why I’ve been quiet on here 😂) and still looking forward to couple more… we’ve had a couple of cracking sessions, and also some that have been hard graft finding the decent fish as the week has gone on.

Every crew that has stepped foot on the deck has given it a good shot and often it’s the youngsters picking up the fish!

We have had a mix of trip types, from pushing off to the deeps or staying local on the banks - the water here really isn’t a great clarity at the moment, hot chocolate in places!

Early starts and late finishes - there’s nowhere I’d rather be… LOVE IT ❤️❤️

Caught three pipefish in the marina over the last 2 days… first for me!!

Saw the big ol’ gal ‘OOCL Wisdom’ coming in today - stacked 22 containers high. She was quite the sight 👀

Fun in the sun ☀️

A mega couple of days on The Fugit. It’s seen children’s trips, river tours / picnics (more scones ❤️) and offshore fishing trips heading out into the ol’ blue.

Headed out yesterday ‘dan safff’ off the Essex coast and worked over a sandbank in a tiny tide. Fish weren’t huddled up to the mark, they were spread either side of the structure.

The better bass came over the rail on baits and we had plenty of baby Tope. We weren’t targeting them so when a big boy hooked up, had a short period of fun, stripping line, and then bit through the mono. Cue stories for years to come of ‘The one that got away’… That’s fishing 🤷‍♂️.

From the start of the week that looked like it would be mostly written off with high winds. The flexibility of the diary and organising trips came good and what a week we had!

Last couple of days have been awesome - the diary has been flexible to move trips around to fit in with the weather and it’s been great getting new faces on the deck.

A couple of trips with families taking their children out which have seen smoothounds, roker and lots and lots of bass! A couple of keeper sized ones.

Today saw a couple and their two furry friends Noah and Tsotsi - the biggest dogs we have had onboard!!

They loved being out on the boat in their lifejackets and spent most of the day sleeping, whilst I played the game of not stepping on them 😂

Good mix of bait on the banks and lures bringing them over the rail.

Cracking times with lovely people and smiles all round. Can’t ask for much more…

Absolute SMASH ‘N’ GRAB!!!

With a weather window that would only be open until lunchtime we had to make an early start to make the most of the day.

The crew wanted lures only… so the plan was to get out and have a scout about for some of the big shoals of bass.

Leaving the marina it was proper foggy - about 20m visibility just to wake me up 😂. However, this was just land fog that cleared as we left Harwich Harbour to sea.

Plenty of miles under the hull but too far offshore, steaming from bank to bank and checking out all the rips and places we have found the shoals in recent weeks. Just looking for the better fish, simply if there weren’t there then we would move onto the next.

Tried out some of the JOKER jigs and lures new range of Orcas, which worked well - although I’ve still got my personal favourite 🤫

Well fished boys - all the best fish from one mark which was fast and furious in the big tide and about 2hours fishing.

Yeeessssshhhhh SIR 🫡

A proper day of 2 halves…

Punched out to the blue water over slack this morning and absolutely nailed it!! Stacks and stacks of lovely sized bass over the rail, the water clarity was just right and the JOKER jigs and lures smashing it as always!

Everyone reached their quota quickly and we selected the best eating sized fish to put in the box - not too big and not too small! It was hectic on the deck of The Fugit and the crew loved it!

The wind picked up around lunchtime and we headed to an inshore sandbank to pick up some hounds.

A wet ride back to Harwich with waves smashing over the port bow - the crew were impressed how well The Fugit dealt with the rough stuff 😊

Just a stunning day on the water all round!!

‘Ladies that lunch’ turned into ‘Ladies that lure’

What started out as a peaceful river tour and picnic descended into chaos!

There I was enjoying a fine selection of cured meats, washed down with pink lady apple juice and decadent home made scones whilst the crew enjoyed their picnic on deck and taking in the scenery. Then for some reason I asked:

‘Do you want to try and catch some fish?’ Well they were keen for it - not that this was in the planning of the trip 😂

We found the birds, which are working like clockwork and in good numbers now.

A quick lesson on how to hold the rod, cast the rod and a few reminders which way to turn the handle (turn it the wrong way and it comes off 😂😂)… and boom, they were quickly into the fish.

A pair JOKER jigs and lures super Frys that completely battered now still proving they do the business!

The screams and laughter when they hooked up was amazing - and the jumping round when one came over the rail made me remember one of the main reasons we fish - it’s just fun!

A couple of fish just under sized and plenty of smaller ones.

Had to work a bit harder for them today!

Very little tide run over the banks and the fish were lazzzzzyyyyy! Real small bite indication on the rod tips with hounds just sitting on the baits having a good chew! Even a hound coming to the side of the boat with the angler thinking it was a clump of w**d - not one tail kick until it saw the net.

Other fish that just took off and spooled line from the reel 🤯

The sand banks are alive with bass at the moment and lures are the way to get them over the rail. Even a couple of proper beaten up old JOKER jigs and lures still doing the business!

Biggest bass of the day lost at the net by the youngest angler onboard - lessons to be learnt for next time 👍🏻👍🏻

Loving the weather though, and the water colour was amazing.
