The Chilli Dawgzzzzz were back on the deck of The Fugit!! 🌭

Hard to define what a perfect day on the water looks like… but today can’t be far off!

Plenty of fish over the rail, a decent mix of species, cracking weather, great crew and chilli dawgs!

We had a good crack at some varied types of mark, starting on some rocky hard ground for hounds and bass. Then over a sand bank and finally ending up on an inshore rip which produced 5 species and was a perfect end to a great day out.

Cheers to the deliveroo of the sea, Joe Davitt for dropping me vital supplies off half way through the morning 😂😂

Days like this are ones to remember…

💥 Wow wow wee waaaaa - another scorchaaaa 🕶️

What sort of fishing charter leaves at lunch time? Erm… this one… We leave when the tide tells us it’s best!

Nature will always give the best indication of where the action is and watching what happens at sea and as the season goes on we have to work out a pattern of where the fish will show. It doesn’t work every time and there are loads of variables to consider.

Our part of the coast is subject to chocolate water, this doesn’t let us properly lure fish that often, however when it does work - the fishing is on fire!

We knew roughly where we wanted to be, and at which state of the tide so we enjoyed a leisurely start. We soon found the blue water and as we headed to the edge of a sandbank the birds were going crazy.

We soon put the JOKER jigs and lures to use and they were smashing it!!

Great stamp of fish coming over the rail and everyone got their quota.

My charter days don’t have a set start and finish time, so when the crew chanted ‘one more drift, one more drift’ - peer pressure got me and we went again 😂😂. Good choice too as this saw the best fish of the day come over the rail on a home made, hybrid jig type thing 😂

The better fish were released and the table sized ones were kept.

Plenty of snacks and suncream on deck and just a great laugh from start to finish - well done crew 👍🏻

Trips leave from Shotley Marina, or Ha’Penny Pier, Harwich.

Scorching 🥵 little social run out 🛥️

Awesome forecast for the day with light winds and a decent tide. We made a lazy start to the morning and the band of merry men jumped on the deck of The Fugit, put the hammer down and headed to the blue water.

The boat performed faultlessly, she sits so much nicer in the water since the rebuild and as expected was a proper laugh and relaxing day with some decent fish over the rail.

First proper go on the bass this year and we took a couple each for the table. Biggest went to 69cm which equals the boat record and we also fluked out a gurnard, first one over the rail so another boat record 😂😂

Had a couple of great trips since I last posted on here with some good mixed bags with hounds and a couple of rays coming in on the day trips and in the evenings.

What a beaut!!

With light winds and small seas forecast we had visions of skimming across the top of a flat sea… as we rounded Languard point, those visions had gone 🙄.

Whilst The Fugit loves it rough, the direction was a pain for where we were headed, but she ploughed on and at least the it was dry in the wheelhouse 😂.

The boys on deck today were all experienced fishermen and they did well to fish the conditions - so well one of the had to have a nap between fish and really enjoyed being woken up to the sound of his drag taking off 😂.

The small tide sent the hounds wild on the feed and they gave good accounts of themselves.

Proper consistent day with fish coming over the rail at all states of the tide.

So good to be able to use the last of the worms up on the bass in the river on the way home - that means it’s summer, right?!

Are you sitting comfortably?… then I shall begin…

This is a story about Adam. He is a great angler, has fished all over the world, caught some great fish and is an all round top bloke.

He has been on the deck of The Fugit many times and has had two trips in three days.

On Friday he was fishing away, in his normal fashion and bringing plenty over the rail. Then in a moment of enthusiasm / madness / over eagerness to get a bait back in the water - he casted…

Now he’s a pretty chilled out chap and he tends to cast one handed. All well and good until the bail arm clicked over, jammed the line and pulled it out from his hand.

‘Oh blast’ he shouted - or words to that effect, as my diamond encrusted, limited edition Penn rod and reel sunk.

Anyway, we didn’t get it back…

Well today he was into a proper rod bender. There he was silently cracking on playing the fish, not wanting to draw attention to himself. I headed over with ‘ol’ lucky’ the net and it broke him off…

Before we set up his other rod he had a bite on his other rod - as it surfaced it was tangled up. It was his original fish that had snapped off onto this other line!

So a couple of moments of bad luck, followed by a shot of good luck and a very well deserved double figure hound.

Another cracking run out, with plenty over the rail and a lot of fun on the water.

What a week on The Fugits deck!

We have had various trips going out this week, each one with great crews, lots of laughs and plenty of fish over the rail.

The evening sessions are working well, and are a good social one for those who can make it. I’ll look to do these more often as plenty have asked for it - however, please remember these (and other spaces) are only put on my WhatsApp group.

If we were in a species hunt we would be smashing it and nice to see some variety coming up!

As the season progresses I’m learning what the grounds / tides have in store for us, although each tide seems to bring something new.

Today’s flood was held back and trickled through at a very leisurely pace which made the fishing spot on.

Anyway, I’ve had a blast and looking forward to the next one where I plan to push north and have a play on some of the banks.
