The Club

Based at Shotley Marina at the confluence of the Rivers Stour and Orwell, Shotley Point Yacht Club welcomes all boaters to join its friendly club where you will find like-minded people with an interest in sailing the East Coast and beyond. To encourage membership, we keep our fees very low; adopt a friendly, unstuffy and informal approach to sailing life, putting all our efforts into org

anising and running a full and varied programme of sailing and social and training events each year. Our cruising events are designed so that most boat owning members can participate if they wish. Cruises are mainly to the many destinations around the East Coast and Thames Estuary, not involving long sails and so are ideal for family sailors, although there are usually one or two trips to Holland, Belgium or France each year. The emphasis is on the social side of things, a glass of two of wine aboard, yacht club meals and BBQ's often feature. Cruising includes:

Ipswich
Bradwell & Tollesbury
Burnham on Crouch
Woodbridge
Heybridge
Thames
Walton & Frinton
France

as well as a number of social events such as a Trinity House visit and lunch, Wrabness BBQ, hog roast, quiz night and courses such as Day Skipper / Coastal Skipper Navigation refresher, First Aid and Sea Survival. If you are new to boating or to the East Coast or you want to extend your cruising horizons and social life then you will find a warm welcome at SPYC. For more information contact the Membership Secretary at [email protected].

In this month's Yachting Monthly there is a request from an older sailor called Roy Sheriff asking people to complete a short questionnaire. He wants to identify the reasons why people stop sailing, the barriers they face, and whether they would continue if supported. You can find the survey here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/GHHHFJD
