We get ‘Real Sea Sailing’ but have sheltered launching just inside the harbour entrance – perfect! Shoreham Sailing Club (SSC) is situated on the western bank of the River Adur with boats launched and recovered from our slipway into the harbour. The club is primarily a racing club though persons not wishing to race are also very welcome. We run a racing programme from March to November/December, w

eather permitting. Class and handicap racing is held either in the river/harbour, or more usually out to sea. There is Sunday morning racing throughout the season and Wednesday evening racing during the summer months. The club frequently hosts weekend open meetings for a variety of fleets.

Bank Holiday Monday saw Shoreham members competing for the Jeff McTaggart Trophy, held in memory of Jeff, who gave so much to the club and is greatly missed.

Sailed in beautiful sunshine and a light south-easterly breeze, the event attracted an incredible 24 entries. To be eligible for the trophy, competitors had to race with a junior sailor, someone new, or in a different class of boat than usual - perfectly reflecting Jeff’s spirit of encouragement and participation.

Congratulations to our winners, Callum and Sophie, with Callum helming a Merlin for the very first time. Second place went to Martin, who was testing out a Supernova, while third place was claimed by husband-and-wife team Jonathan and Lizzie Bailey in a 2000.

We were delighted to welcome Jeff’s daughter, Alex, to present the trophy, making the day even more special. Thank you to everyone who took part - we look forward to seeing the Jeff McTaggart Trophy becoming a much-loved annual event.

Yesterday was our first open day at Shoreham SC and what a day. Thank you to everyone that visited and an even bigger thanks to all our members for making it possible.

We welcomed 199 visitors, 95 of whom got out sailing. When not on the water visitors got to explore the club, find out about membership, improver sessions, youth club, view lots of different boats and meet our health and wellbeing affiliates and the RNLI. A delicious BBQ was laid on by Fete n’ Lime.

It was a very special day. .yogaxmel

Cracking day of racing for the Easter Cup. Well done to former member George Smith who won in his RS600. William Warren and Andy Prince in their Merlin Rocket were second and Mike Perry and his crew in a 2000 finished third.

We had another disappointing meeting with the last week, as they reiterated that no further works will be carried out at Soldiers Point despite the rock revetments (installed a year ago) visibly tumbling down the beach. They will continue to monitor the area and if the tidal wall is compromised they may take action. They said that is likely that we will lose our fence but that it is due to erosion and as such is not their problem. Our MP Tom Rutland and Shoreham Port representatives were in attendance.
