🥋 Summer Training at Sussex Kobudo Dojo 🥋

Over the Summer Holidays, Yondan Edwards 4th Dan and Yondan Pink 4th Dan had the privilege of enjoying regular training at the Sussex Kobudo Dojo in Burgess Hill.

Under the expert instruction of Shihan David and Renshi Jo, our Assistant Chief Instructors had the opportunity to study traditional Okinawan weapons, including the Bo Staff, Jo Staff, Nunchaku and Tonfa.

Learning and developing multiple Kata with these traditional weapons proved to be a hugely productive, challenging and enjoyable summer training programme. It was a fantastic opportunity to step outside our usual training environment, develop new skills and continue our own martial arts journeys.

A huge thank you to everyone at Sussex Kobudo for welcoming us so warmly, training with us and sharing your knowledge and experience.

It’s great to be part of the wider Martial Arts community. Cross-training, sharing knowledge and learning from other instructors and practitioners can only help us all develop and improve.

Today we proudly held our very first Advanced Course for Black Belt and 1st Kyu students as Seishin Martial Arts Academy.

Led by our Assistant Chief Instructors, Yondan Emma Edwards 4th Dan and Yondan Andrew Pink 4th Dan, the course covered a wide range of advanced training designed to challenge and develop every student.

Our Black Belts worked hard on the new syllabus, learning and refining new techniques and combinations, while our 1st Kyu students focused on perfecting their Kihon.

The course then moved on to self-defence partner work, with all students developing practical application skills. The 1st Kyu students progressed onto the Jo Staff Kata, while the Black Belts were introduced to part of the Ni Cho K**a Kata.

To finish the session, everyone pushed themselves through an intense bag work session, concentrating on powerful and effective kicking techniques.

Despite the heat, every student trained with outstanding determination, spirit, and discipline. Their commitment and attitude truly reflected what it means to be part of Seishin Martial Arts Academy.

A fantastic first Advanced Course—well done to everyone who attended. The journey continues!

Another weekend, another proud moment for Seishin Martial Arts Academy! 🥋🏅
Our very own Sempai Ellie Moore, 2nd Dan, was back in action at the London GB Qualifiers, once again demonstrating incredible skill, strength, and determination.
Ellie has returned home with an impressive medal haul:

🥉 Bronze – Sanshin Kata
🥉 Bronze – Nunchucks Weapon Kata

🥋 What an incredible way to celebrate the official launch of Seishin Martial Arts Academy! 🥋

A huge congratulations to our very own Sempai Ellie Moore, 2nd Dan, who proudly represented Seishin Martial Arts Academy today at the UK Karate Federation Open Championships held at Grange Leisure Centre, Swindon.

Competing against some of the very best karateka from across the UK, Ellie delivered an outstanding performance:

🥈 Silver Medal – Kumite (Sparring)
🥉 Bronze Medal – Weapons Kata (Nunchaku)

To achieve not one, but two medals at such a prestigious nationwide competition is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to Ellie’s hard work, dedication, and fighting spirit.

We couldn’t be prouder of you, Sempai Ellie Moore. You have represented our academy with honour and excellence and have given us the perfect start to this exciting new chapter.
