Mister Blue Sky

Have done some beautiful seaswim sessions in the evenings lately. Although David here might use other adjectives to describe swimming in chop.

When the sea breezes come up later in the day it can pose a challenge. It’s not easy to get into a rhythm when the water surface keeps changing and the waves are coming from all directions. Over time you become more accustomed to coping with constant change and with persistence can develop the ability to just keep swimming if a wave washes over you. As David says, it sometimes requires more ‘grunt’.

The sun has been setting on us as we finish our sessions. Feels good, clean and wholesome to be out there.

Keeping it light, keeping it fun, keeping it chilled. Friday mornings at the hut continue during August.

Dip, sip ☕️, chat or simply drink in the view.

Bit of a creative vibe going on at the moment too. God I love it when there are no rules.

9.15-10.30am £15 a session.

July Fridays, 9.15-10.30am. £15 per session.

Quiet sessions for dipping, reflecting on the week and tuning into the beach environment. I’ll be there to supervise water sessions (and join in!) and make a cuppa.

Bring your journal, pull a tarot card or simply sit and stare at the horizon.

One week we saw dolphins, on others someone has been making really unique pieces of art in the waves. Sometimes we swim a few laps between groynes - if you want to.

4 spaces per week. Booking is here:

Fridays can be booked individually. If you haven’t melted. ☀️🥵

2nd post in Drowning Prevention Week.

PHONE. THROW. FLOAT.

Don't get in to rescue someone. Getting within grabbing distance of someone who is terrified and panicking is a bad idea.

Do you and your child really understand the ? 🌊

We spend four consecutive sessions educating all our swimmers with real experiences— of every age and ability — on what they would do if they got into difficulty in open water.

As part of this, our swimmers wear clothes in the pool to understand first-hand what it feels like to move and stay safe in water whilst fully clothed — because accidents don't happen in swimsuits with swimming goggles on!

The water's still cold.
If you get into difficulty, Float to Live

Not everyone floats perfectly. Some people do have to kick their legs to keep them up. Keeping your head back and airway clear are the most important things. Exhaling slowly and steadily to keep panic at bay helps too.

Want to join us? A few sessions left until our summer break from the pool. Thursdays at Steyning Leisure Centre:

Novice Front crawl @ 8-9pm

Can you swim 25m Front Crawl unaided (without fabulous fins)? Would you like to join a friendly swim group for a few sessions for some fun and some stamina building?

There are 2 spaces available to join the existing group of fabulous, friendly front crawlers.

If you’ve never had coaching as an adult, or feel you’ve got a bit stale with your swimming, why not dip your toe in and join us for some group work for a bit of oomph.

Technique and Fitness @ 7-8pm

For swimmers who can swim 200m continuous front crawl. Actually we do other strokes too sometimes and, because it’s summer we’ll do some open water skills and a bit of personal survival too. All in the name of fitness, fun and water confidence.

A few spots free here as we head into (hopefully) a summer of seaswimming 🐬.

It’s £49 for the 3 sessions. Drop me a line if you’d like to join us.

Kath 😊

Today we saw a pod of 10 or so dolphins pass by just 50 metres or so from shore. Huge, beautiful creatures, breaching and throwing fish up into the air. My two companions cried.

I can't promise that every week but on our Fridays this month we've had some really grounding conversations, shared a cup of tea, swam some leisurely lengths between the groynes (optional, you're welcome to dip and float) and pulled tarot cards. Basically we've done what we want to to feel part of the beach and taken a huge sigh of relief. The hut has worked its magic.

June sessions start next week - on Fridays 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of June, 9.15-10.30am. I would love to see you - booking is here: https://www.bookwhen.com/swimandtonic
