May is National walking month. Do you know the impact a few extra steps can make on your overall health. It is one of the best forms of exercise there is.

Just 500 extra steps a day might not sound like much — but over time, it can make a real difference 🚶‍♀️

Adding a few more steps each day helps build stamina, strengthen muscles and joints, improve heart health and boost energy levels. Regular walking also supports better mood, lower stress and clearer thinking.

Small changes soon add up: 500 extra steps a day is over 180,000 extra steps a year. Your body — and mind — will thank you for it. 👟

I could quite easily have sacked off of training yesterday. The legs were still a bit sore after the Great Bristol 10k but that wasn’t an option.

I had to have a good word with myself mind you 🤣.

This is why you feel weaker as you get older.

What you’re seeing is muscle loss.
Also called sarcopenia.

On the left is healthy muscle.
On the right is age-related loss.

Normally, muscle is dense.
And strong.

But over time,
That mass decreases.

The fibers become thinner.
And less efficient.

Fat can also build up.
Inside the muscle.

This is not just aging.
It’s loss of function.

That’s why strength drops.
And everyday tasks feel harder.

Standing up.
Carrying things.
Climbing stairs.

All require muscle.
That may no longer be there.

That difference you’re seeing
Is exactly why you feel weaker.

It’s the Bristol 10k next week and I’d done almost no training until today 🤦‍♀️.

I went out this morning and dragged myself through a very slow 6 miles which is virtually 10k 🤣. Very slow but I got there.
