A Bolton Woods Hero Taking On an Incredible Challenge!

Many of you will know Michelle Elliott, who has been a huge part of the Bolton Woods family for many years.

Whether it’s running teams, helping directly or behind the scenes, supporting players, organising events, volunteering countless hours of her time, or simply being one of the friendly faces that makes our club what it is, Michelle has always been there for Bolton Woods JFC. Her dedication to our players, families and wider community is something that never goes unnoticed.

This week, Michelle completed an incredible challenge in memory of her Grandad, Ken Bird, raising money for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. ❤️

Michelle was part of the core team that walked over 160 miles, visiting football and rugby clubs across the region before finishing at the Rob Burrow Centre in Leeds. While reading that sounds impressive, the reality of the challenge was even tougher.

For days they battled exhaustion, aching bodies, blisters, changing weather conditions, sleep deprivation and the mental challenge of putting one foot in front of the other for mile after mile. There were emotional moments, difficult moments, and times when continuing must have felt almost impossible. Like many who take on challenges of this magnitude, there were points where Michelle questioned whether she could keep going.

But what carried her through was the importance of the cause, the memory of her Grandad, the support of those walking alongside her, and the determination to make a difference for those affected by Motor Neurone Disease.

That resilience, courage and strength of character are exactly why Michelle is so respected by everyone who knows her.

We’re incredibly proud to share that she has already raised over £1,200, smashing her original fundraising target, but more importantly she has helped raise awareness for a disease that affects so many families and has touched the lives of people throughout the football community.

As a club, we’d love to help her raise even more for this fantastic cause. If you’re able to support Michelle, no matter how big or small the donation, it would be hugely appreciated.

From everyone at Bolton Woods JFC, thank you Michelle for everything you do for our club and congratulations on completing such an inspiring and demanding challenge. We couldn’t be prouder.

💜⚽ Well done Michelle… you are a true Bolton Woods legend. ⚽💜

SHOUTOUT TO BOLTON WOODS OWN ALFIE & EVERYONE AT BLAKEHILL!

Everyone at Bolton Woods would like to wish Alfie and the entire Blakehill squad the very best of luck as they head to Wembley tomorrow for the Utilita Kids Cup League One Final! 🏆

To walk out and play at Wembley is the stuff dreams are made of for young footballers, and we couldn’t be prouder to see one of our own getting this incredible opportunity. 👏

Alfie has been part of the Bolton Woods family since he was just 2 years old, and over the years he has grown into not only an incredible footballer, but also a fantastic young lad with a brilliant attitude toward the game.

Seeing players develop, progress and experience opportunities like this is exactly what grassroots football is all about. From local pitches… to Wembley Stadium.

We know how much hard work, dedication and commitment goes into moments like these, from players, coaches and families alike, and it’s fantastic to see grassroots football creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Go and enjoy every single second of it, Alfie.
The whole Bolton Woods community is behind you and the Blakehill boys! 🙌⚽

⚽💡 BOLTON WOODS ARE BREAKING THE GRASSROOTS MOULD 💡⚽

Grassroots football is evolving… and so are we.

At Bolton Woods U9 Bulls, we’re determined to create an environment that gives young players the very best opportunity to grow… not just as footballers, but as thinkers, communicators and confident young people.

This week, the boys took part in our first ever Virtual Learning Education (VLE) football session, before heading straight out onto the training pitch to put those ideas into action.

Inside the classroom setting, players explored:
> Tactical understanding
> Team shape and formations
> Movement patterns
> Passing options
> Position-specific responsibilities
> Reading the game
> Decision making under pressure

The best part?
The boys then immediately transferred those concepts onto the pitch during the following 60-minute practical training session, helping them connect football understanding with real match situations.

This is about far more than cones and drills.

At Bolton Woods, we want our players to:
> Understand the game
> Feel confident expressing themselves
> Ask questions
> Solve problems
> Communicate with teammates
> Learn in different ways
> Develop leadership and football intelligence

Too often in grassroots football, children are simply told where to stand or what pass to make. We want our players to understand why.

By creating an environment that blends football coaching with interactive learning, we are helping to build smarter players, stronger characters, and a genuine love for the game. 🧠⚽

Most importantly, the atmosphere in the room was incredible. Hands flying up. Players debating ideas. Smiles everywhere. Energy. Excitement. Confidence. Learning.

This is the type of modern, positive football environment we want Bolton Woods to be known for!!

A club willing to innovate.
A club willing to invest in player development.
A club willing to think differently.

And for young players, that creates an AWESOME environment to learn, improve and fall in love with football. ⚽️🫶

🏆 BOLTON WOODS U11 SCOOP VICTORY IN AIRE CUP FINAL! 🏆

It happened! 14 local lads gave absolutely everything today for Bolton Woods Under 11’s Raiders and brought home the U11 Aire Cup 👏

For the Raiders it’s been a journey with many twists, turns, and obstacles to overcome… and we wouldn’t change a single thing about that journey!

Once again, the lads showed they have the hearts of champions overturning a 0-1 losing half time scoreline to take the victory 2-1 🤩

An amazing achievement… for the boys, for the parents who truly are the best support system these lads could ask for, and for us as coaches who are sooo proud of the commitment and effort we see the boys put in week in week out.

This is just the beginning for this squad - enjoy your moment boys! Up the Raiders 👊⚽️

As a club, our thoughts go out to Tony Miller and his wife Elsie.

A minutes silence was held this weekend by all Bolton Woods teams playing at home in memory of their daughter Michelle.

Bolton Woods owes so much to all the work and dedication Tony has offered over many many years, and it’s because of this that both boys and girls ranging from U15 down to Soccer Tots get to enjoy playing football in a fantastic supportive environment week in week out.

We stand by you Tony and Elsie in this difficult time as a family, and our entire Bolton Woods community sends its love, strength and deepest condolences.

Michelle will always be remembered fondly by those who knew her, and her memory will remain close to the hearts of everyone connected with the club.

Raiders win away at Silsden

The Raiders were up early and travelled across to Silsden for their final game before next Saturdays eagerly awaited Cup Final… and a fast start was requested before kick off. We asked for high energy, high press from the front, to win individual battles and to maintain pressure from start to finish.

The lads clearly took note and found themselves 1-0 up within the very first minute thanks to a familiar Lucas burst of pace and clever finish 1 on 1 with the keeper ⚽️

Bolton Woods Raiders looked to build on that early lead with plenty of pass and move, and what really impressed us was how vocal the team were all over the pitch!

Taking on the pre match advice the first half was a perfect defensive display with Shaun, Matteo and Nevada all winning their individual battles keeping Pesh relatively quiet in the opening 30 minutes. Although when he was called into action he was there to spring to his left with a strong wrist and parry a Silsden shot round the post!

Raiders came close a few times before the lead was extended to two. Winning the ball at right back and transitioning well into a counter attack the Raiders built up beautifully allowing Saad to flick on a ball to Lucas who blistered toward goal beating his man before coolly slotting home ⚽️

The Raiders were unfortunate not to take a three goal lead into half time with Zac finding the back of the net, however the referee did well to spot a hand ball in build up play. Non the less, Zac looked menacing throughout the half due to his high work rate, fast pressing and finding himself in some great positions.

The second half saw the Raiders pick up where they left off and with no drop off in energy they really started to up the pressure early. Freddie combining well with those around him, Bobby and Kyle linking up very well, and some excellent through balls from Bobby allowed the Raiders to release our attacking three down the left, through the centre and down the right… ensuring the play was well stretched and we could cause threat from all areas!

It was a through ball for Frankie that gave the Raiders their third goal as our Captain Cooley rounded the keeper to finish on his less favoured right foot ⚽️

Silsden kept pushing and a foul on the edge of box saw them grab a goal back with a wonder free kick that almost wedged itself in the stanchion!

Not to be deterred, the goal seemed to push the Raiders up another gear and the boys rallied to create more and more chances. Kyle coming close with a series of long range efforts, Shaun hitting the post, and George hitting the bar… until Frankie found a pocket of space in the box and was first to react to a loose ball at a corner to half volley past the Silsden keeper and to make it 4 ⚽️

We kept pushing right up to the final whistle and the game ended in good spirits with both teams shaking hands.

Thanks to Silsden, thanks to the ref, and we wish you all the best with remainder of your season.

Congratulations to Zac on his man of the match! 🏆

All attention now turns to Saturdays big one!! Raiders… good luck this week with your SATS! Do your best, and let’s give ourselves a reason to celebrate at the weekend 🤩

Bolton Woods Devils very unlucky today.

The devils came up against last weeks opponents who we expected to come for revenge after losing the league because of our win last weeks.

The devils started really bright and had the best of the chances but went into half time 0-0.

The Devils came out bright again in the second half but unfortunately went behind to a great goal from Redfern. The girls heads didn’t go down and we continued to have numerous chances, which Redferns keeper made great saves and they defended strong.

Ameliah eventually got the deserved goal for the team and despite us continuing to have the better chances, unfortunately we were unable to clear a bouncing ball in the box and Redfern got a late winner.

The girls didn’t deserve to lose the game but that’s football. We are taking a lot of positives from today into our final game next Saturday at home to Swillington
