Final day 3 on the mountaineering course The Mountaineering Company | North Wales

A guided route and skills consolidation day on Glyder Fach led by James Anstee

We went up North Ridge Gully into East Ridge Gully then down Y Gribin.

A fun day on some grade 3 classics in with a few committed moves bordering on easy climbing ⛰️🧗‍♂️

Really beneficial 3 days in the mountains getting practice on more challenging scrambling terrain, learning and applying rope skills, and moving as a group.

Laying the foundation for more to come 🧗‍♂️

Leading and being led on Tryfan ⛰️

Day 2 on the mountaineering course The Mountaineering Company | North Wales

We ascended Tryfan starting on Milestone gulley then around the north face and into Bastow buttress.

Getting time on both ends of the rope, being led up by .evans123 then leading on the second route. Guided and instructed by James Anstee

Belaying from placed gear anchors, off ‘alpine’ style natural rock belays and providing rope confidence assistance as needed.

Good to get a first look at placing gear, building anchors and understanding the processes needed to lead someone over this terrain.

Great day out in the mountains learning plenty more 👌⛰️🧗‍♂️

Day one done on the mountaineering development course with The Mountaineering Company | North Wales

A good intro day led by James Anstee going through basics of rope skills for scrambling on steeper grade 2/3 terrain.

We ascended the north west face route for a classic Cwn Idwal route.

Spent the afternoon practicing belaying/ascenidng using rock features as anchor points/redirects and first look at placing protection for more exposed sections.

Lots of fun to get to grips with new rope systems and climbing steeper terrain in a group. ⛰️

Good practice on work positioning and reaching the ends of the limbs 🪢 🌳

It’s all a mix of using your ropes, the tree, and getting good angles from your anchor points to get to where you need to.

Plenty to learn, fun to climb.

Hanging around 🌳🧗‍♂️

More tree climbing, pole ascending and aerial rescue practice today. Getting used to trusting and using different climbing systems and slowly getting more efficient moving through the canopy.

Assessments tomorrow 👌

3 days into the tree climbing and aerial rescue course with 🧗‍♂️🌳

Learning and practicing tree access, moving in and descending the tree. Aerial rescue of a casualty from an open canopy and from a pole.

Fun to learn all the ropes systems and get the tree reps in. Tough work on the hands with all the repeat reps but that’s the job.

2 days to go with the assessment to finish. Plenty more to practice 👌

Woodland cruising in the evening sun ☀️ 🚴

As always, some good riding alongside overgrown forgotten paths requiring pushing my bike 👌😂

Route planning continually a mixed bag, but always leads to interesting exploring.

Crazy that climbing trees is a job 🌳

Getting some climbing practice in ahead of a tree climbing and aerial rescue course next week.

Enjoying learning all things ropes, climbing and arboriculture. 🪢 🧗‍♂️🌳
