My final tip for New year fitness, remember your warm up and cool down. Every time.

Yes, we all have those mornings when we've pressed the snooze button a few too many times or those days when the dreaded traffic gods seem dead against you.

But I don't want you to think about this workout, I want you to think about the next 10 workouts. After all, consistency is the key.

Warming up and cooling down properly can greatly decrease your risk of getting injured. Using them to address any tightness or imbalances will also keep you moving efficiently, fighting off that ni**le in your lower back or ITB.

Warm Up:
5-10mins easy to moderate Cardio
Any mobility work/core engagement (prescribed by professional)
Dynamic stretches

Cool Down:
5-10mins moderate to easy Cardio
Static Stretches
BOSH, done!

Here's my no. 4 Tip for your new years fitness (I'm assuming you've still got the bug...?) & its all about nutrition.

Looking to bulk up? Lose those few extra pounds? how about just lead a healthier lifestyle? Well', nutrition will need to be an essential part of the process.

Paleo, IIFYM, intermittent fasting can all work in the right environment, however to the fitness newbie this can all seem confusing and stressful enough to push you straight down the naughty isle on your next supermarket sweep.

So here's my 3 initial steps to improve your nutrition:

1. Meat and 2 Veg..... well 2 or more in fact.
A good source of Protein (including fish) to aid recovery, plus low GI sources of vitamins and minerals every day. Enough said.

2. Calories do matter... If you want to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you eat (I know right, BOMB SHELL...) and vice versa for the bulkers out there.
My fitness pal is a great app to track your calories & progress, but don't go crazy, especially if your losing. Set 2lbs a week as a guide.

3. Everything in moderation.
Carbs and fat aren't going to kill you. In fact good sources of fat are essential to your health. But you need to remember that fats contain more calories than the other macros. As for processed carbs, these won't contain the essential vitamins and minerals you'll gain from eating vegetables. Please refer back to point 1 and point 2.

No. 2 tip for your January Fitness... Have a Plan!

Ok, so this isn't necessarily that ground breaking... but you will be surprised how many people dive into a new fitness regime without any plan or direction.

Think about your goals, write them down and start planning how you are going to work towards them.

Whether this is periodising your year, planning your 4 day split or just setting aside times you will exercise around your weekly work shifts. Writing it down or in your diary can be very effective. You'll also be better equipped to track any progress you make.

So, how do you know you're going in the right direction?

Start by grabbing some advice from a trusted trainer at your gym. Mention your goals and that you feel you need a push in the right direction.

Alternatively, PM me with any questions & I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
