Littleton Sailing Club

Littleton Sailing Club Littleton Sailing Club actively promotes dinghy sailing in a safe environment. Adults and families are all welcomed. The club is situated on an attractive lake, near Shepperton in Surrey and easily accessible from the M25, M3 and M4. We offer year round dinghy racing and cruising, windsurfing and stand up paddleboarding. Adults can learn to sail on one of our RYA training courses, while junior members start learning in a relaxed fun environment and can go on to take RYA certificated courses if they wish. New members are welcome!

Littleton Sailing Club enjoys exclusive use of a picturesque lake of some 80 acres between Shepperton and Chertsey in Surrey.

There are about 500 members in total. Littleton Sailing Club was officially opened in June 1958, as a Division of the Civil Service Sailing Association, and their first dinghy club.

Membership is no longer restricted to civil servants or public sector employees past

and present, however if you are a member of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) you can enjoy discounted membership.

There is club racing at weekends throughout the year and on Thursday evenings during the summer months. Members can also cruise, or take part in our informally run improver sessions on Wednesday evenings during the summer. Adopted dinghy classes are Solos, Lasers, Optimists and sailboards. Stand up paddleboarding and windsurfing are permitted, and in addition there is also an active sailing dinghy handicap fleet. The club calendar gives all the details of our sailing programme throughout the year.

Littleton Sailing Club is an RYA Affiliate club offering dinghy sailing courses leading to RYA certification for adults and young people.

Welcome to the summer issue of RYA Magazine. ☀️

Whether you want to build confidence, learn new skills, or simply enjoy time on the water, you’ll find plenty in this issue.

Our Keeping Watch feature details the work of National Coastwatch Institution volunteers, with an account of one dramatic incident and rescue. We also feature the rise of boardsports, along with an informative article on navigating shipping lanes and anchoring responsibly.

Spot yourself in the Open day fun! Thank you to all of our guests who visited on Saturday for our June open day. Thank you to all club members for helping out. We loved hearing you all say, "I loved that!" coming off the water from your taster sail. We enjoyed seeing everyone go afloat, some of you even taking the helm. Some of the gusts were tough but you all did great keeping the boat balanced and upright. Thank you to our safety and rescue team for being on duty all day to help out too.

Hope everyone enjoyed your galley and bar treats in the sunshine. Welcome to our new members. To the rest of our guests, we look forward to welcoming you as members very soon. Our 11 July members' summer party needs prior registration so don't delay now.

Stay clear of paddling near weirs and weir pools. Weirs have very strong currents called ‘stoppers’ that drag you under the water and hold you there. Follow safety signage and remember
if you get into trouble.
