Our paddlers did brilliantly at clearing some of the rubbish out of the river today for our Big Paddle Clean Up! Thank you to all of them. We have now left the litter pickers in the cleaning cupboard for visiting groups to add this to their activities.

Despite yesterday's weather, it all cleared in time for our first group of new recruits to get on the water. Eight girls joined us for the first session on our Paddle UK Discover Award course and did brilliantly to learn about how to kit up and start paddling.

We have lots of other opportunities this summer which can be booked straight onto (no need to go via your unit leader).

Beginners 11+:
Monday 15th June - Intro to Kayaking
Tuesday 23rd June - Intro to paddleboarding
Wednesday 1st July - Intro to Kayaking
Thursday 23rd July - Intro to paddleboarding

We also have an Explore Award Course running over 4 dates for Girlguiding members age 13+ who have previous paddle experience.

The start of the Paxmead paddle season was officially ‘launched’ today with the Lightwater Brownies taking to the water in our Kata Kanus. What a beautiful day to be on the river!

Please join us for The Big Paddle Clean up at Paxmead on Sunday 7th June - 10am-2pm! We would love to be joined by other river lovers! So, if you have a kayak, paddleboard, canoe or other craft, please come along for a paddle and a litter pick. If you would prefer to keep your feet dry - the tow path also needs litter pickers!

Paxmead will be open, so come and have a look around and if you bring a craft, launch from our jetty. There will be refreshments on sale.

Who doesn't love a campfire? We would love to raise some funds to make our campfire circle a more user friendly space for the group using it, including oak benches and a fixed base for the firepit. If you have ever enjoyed a toasted marshmallow and a sing-song, why not help us to keep the traditions going!

Help us to revitalise the Paxmead Campfire circle so girls can keep enjoying campfire songs and s'mores with their groups!

After the sudden demise of our last fridge, we have just taken delivery of a whopping 368L larder fridge to provide much needed space for groups staying at the weekend and over holiday periods. The scheduled painting is also well underway with the bunkhouse finished and lots of the doors looking great in their new brighter blue - it is going to look so smart!

All profits are to support the two county campsites Paxmead Riverside Base and Herons Wey Campsite

Our site team have been incredibly busy as the weather has started to warm up. It has finally been dry enough to cut the grass and Roo finished the replacement flower bed outside the entrance. We are so grateful for their support in keeping Paxmead looking so lovely for our users.

If you are going to put something to the test, call in the professionals! The River Ash Trefoil Guild christened the new ovens by baking simnel cakes, which look delicious!

Thanks to the quiz fundraising we were able to purchase not just one but TWO new cookers for Paxmead! These are bigger, faster to heat and the doors don't feel like they might fall off, which is always a bonus! I am certain our future users will long appreciate the supreme effort put into helping replace these.
