Resilience is built in the mistakes.

Built by having the courage to try, get things wrong and be willing to go again.

When young players understand that mistakes are part of learning, and football at every level, they stop fearing failure and start responding to it.

The best players still make mistakes. The resilience is what allows them to learn, adapt and keep playing with purpose.

And It’s one of the key character traits I develop within my player development programme, because becoming a better footballer isn’t only about what a player can do. It’s also about how they respond when things don’t go their way.

Reflection is critically important for youth footballers because it helps turn learning into something players can confidently use in their games.

By asking when they were brilliant and why, players start to recognise the actions and decisions behind their success. Over time, they become protagonists of their own development, something every player needs if they want to reach their full potential.

If you know your child is capable of more and want to help them reach their full potential, find out more about my footballer player development programme in Sheffield message me today! ⚽️

My sessions don’t just give players something to do. They give them something to learn.

At the start of every session, I make the focus clear so players know what we’re shining the spotlight on from the content map, this could be individually, as a group or the player could even choose their own.

Last week’s group focus was A.P.P: Architecture, Position, Profile.

See the picture.
Find where you can help.
Get your body ready to play.

Because the more players learn, the better they understand the game, adapt to it and become a player who stands out.

If you want your child training in an environment designed to maximise their learning and help them improve every week, message me today to find out more about my player development programme in Sheffield ⚽️

The first touch wasn’t the problem.

What he saw before receiving, the space he moved into and how he arrived all influenced what followed.

Scan early. Find the space. Arrive with a good profile.

Then the technique becomes much easier to execute, the next action becomes simpler, and you start becoming the forward thinking, attacking player who changes games, that opponents hate playing against and coaches want in their team ⚽️

The clearer the picture you have, the easier it becomes to choose the right solution and use your first touch to prepare for what comes next.

Scan. Choose. Do.

The aim is simple: help players learn faster and improve every week.

Because the more a player learns, the better they understand the game, the more confident they become and the closer they get to becoming the player they’re capable of being.

Busquets didn’t beat pressure with speed.

He beat it by seeing the game earlier.

That’s the advantage I want young players to develop by recognising what’s happening, understanding their options and making better decisions before the ball even arrives.

Football intelligence can be developed.

A young player needs more than just drills to do at training.

They need to know what they’re working towards.

A clear player model gives development a destination so sessions, feedback and progress all have a purpose.

For my players, that means developing their intelligence, skill on and off the ball, and character through sessions that promote learning and joy, while continually moving from baseline to better.
