Yesterday at the (brilliant) TC60 Hybrid Games in Hull, me and Sol (25) qualified for the final in 2nd place…

…and then reality arrived in the shape of a load of lads who were basically born with lung capacity and fast-twitch fibres I last saw in 2003.

We finished 4th.
No excuses — they were better on the day. I genuinely believe Sol would have won with a better partner.

But here’s the thing…

I’m 52 (53 next month), standing next to athletes 20+ years younger, still mixing it, still competing, still pushing. And OK— it was a bit of a wake-up call. Not the “pack it in” kind… the “level up or get left behind” kind.

Ageing doesn’t mean stepping aside.
It just means you’ve got to be smarter, tougher, and maybe warm up for 20 minutes longer than everyone else (I didn't) 😂

Massive respect to everyone in that final — savage standard.

And to anyone over 40 watching this thinking “I’m too old for that”…

You’re not.
You just haven’t started yet.

A BIG WEEKEND FOR THE UNIT 5 TEAM

4 Female Doubles took on their first HYROX at Olympia
1 Male athlete stepped up solo in Belgium
1 of our newest members stepped up to Female solo after just 5 weeks training.

And on top of that.. some seriously impressive times were put down.

More importantly, everybody delivered in the way they handled it. Composed. Tough. Willing to stay in it when it started to bite.

And honestly, I am massively proud of them.

As a coach, you see the sessions, the early mornings, the doubt, the small wins that nobody else notices. So to see them step onto the floor and back it up, that is what really means something.

We're coming up to a year as a gym in June and I am starting to feel the shift. This is what consistent work looks like over time.

No shortcuts. No magic. Just showing up, working hard and getting better.

And the best part?

Nobody's finished.

Everybody's ready to go again!

Proud Coach. Better Team. More to come!

Yesterday we raced!! We didn't have a target time and we certainly weren't racing for a podium.

Yesterday was about something far more important for me, it was about hitting the start line alongside my daughter Sadie.

I have competed in fitness competitions for well over a decade but nothing comes close to sharing the floor with Sadie. She has never done anything like this before, she didn't just get through it, she smashed it!!

I could not be more proud.

People often talk about getting fit and healthy to run around with their kids, it doesn't have to stop when they grow up.

Well done Sadie, amazing what pilates can do... What are we doing next ?? ❤️

UNIT 5 X IMAGINARIUM 1876 RUN CLUB 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We're launching something new at Unit 5 in collaboration with The Imaginarium 1876.

It's not a race.
It's not a massive workout.
Just a good run with good people.

Starting Sunday 1st March we'll be meeting on the first Sunday of every month for a relaxed social run - choose between 5k or 7.5k and we'll head out in pace groups so nobody runs alone.

We'll start and finish at The Imaginarium 1876 where they've kindly sorted 10% discount off food and drinks for run clubbers afterwards.

Bring a friend,family member or someone who keeps saying they should start running... this is the place to begin.

No sign up needed - just turn up. Everybody welcome.
