last night we were at RING CLASH in Thorp Arch

xavier jones debuted on the show against a student of Rick Dale the former superheavyweight champion xavier began well controlling the distance to take the round . unfortunately he changed tactics and tried to stand toe to toe and subsequently got caught for an 8 count

Xavier showed tremendous bravery to get up from the knockdown but after two subsequent knockdowns the referee had to stop the fight.

Fahd was also on the show starting with his entrance as an Arabian prince

the first round was an exchange of scoring kicks between fahd and his opponent from Contender gym trained by our long time friend Garry Bell.
in the second round Fahd switched to accurate boxing and caused two knockdowns.
in the final round Fahd lunged forward with a powerful right cross. he followed up with a left hook causing the opposing corner to quite wisely throw in the towel .

After both contests both coaches had pictures with each other and a friendly catch up .

After all the two main aspects of kickboxing are those of

FRIENDSHIP and RESPECT!!!!!

whatever happened in that ring stayed in the ring as both coaches paid tribute to each other.

Normally we offer good news of our members however on this sad occasion

One of our previous members
Shaun Whelan sadly passed away in a motorcycle accident.
We have a few happy memories of Shaun’s time at AFK
We are fully aware that he had discovered a new passion for Brazilian Ju Jitsu

We know that Shaun spent a few years on a plant based diet.
Ironically the last AFK BBQ. he had sampled sheep’s heart and he supposedly liked it so I don’t know what happened there ? 🤷‍♂️

Shaun competed in MMA on one of the shows and despite being taken down more than once he pulled out the perfect right cross to win by KO.

Shaun was at one time involved with a vegan bakery on Abbeydale Road that was a regular haunt for a couple of our younger members
Namely
Ishmael and Fatima Ali

We would like to pass on our condolences to all of Shaun’s family and friends and rest assured that we cannot forget our good times with him .

Yet another successful weekend for the AFK fight squad

Farhan the resident flyweight was on first and on this occasion due to flyweights being in short supply had to take on a very high standard of bantamweight.

We knew that this was a step up in class and he should be content to go the rounds to see what it’s like at world level .

On this occasion his opponent was a very tall four times ICO champion of the world. Admittedly the opponent was a step in front throughout the contest Farhan eventually found his range with the perfect right hand but it was too little too late .
Farhan had to make do with a silver medal on this occasion and he was content with his performance as we are all proud of him for his determination and taking a step up in weight and experience.

Fahd took a boxing bout on the same card as his kickboxing bout had been cancelled. This bout didn’t last long as his body shot winded his opponent causing a first round TKO .

Both Fahd and Farhan are just two examples of the new face of AFK and we have a whole new list of talented juniors on the team .

People have now got the message that AFK IS BACK!!!!

Saturday at Dunstable Conference centre was a successful day out for AFK

SUPER FIGHT SERIES

ALI HUSSAIN fought against a very tough and aggressive opponent from Weymouth

After landing a perfect knee and causing a knockdown he went back and finished the bout in the first round.

His first comment was “ who’s next?”

On this weekend just gone
The AFK juniors had a very successful season of matches

On Saturday recently promoted Brown Belt FAHD did an exhibition match with a 31 year old experienced competitor who was a real gentleman
On the PPC event in Doncaster where both fighter earned the respect of their respective clubs and also the entire crowd

The very next day both Ali Hussain and Fahd fought in the KINGS CUP championship

Ali won after the first round when his opponent was withdrawn by his corner

Fahd won both his matches on decision to opponents who knew him from TikTok.

In the whole weekend AFK went through 4 victories

The best is yet to come,…..

The last weekend in March was quite a successful one for the AFK fighters

On Friday
Fahd took a last minute charity boxing bout which he won in the first round.

On the Sunday
Ali Hussain won his 4 nations title in 11 seconds of the first round.
He is now
Yorkshire
English
4 nations champion and plans to fight for the British title on April 18th in Sheffield.

We are looking forward to great things from the AFK squad this season and for those of you who wanted AFK to remain closed let this be a huge two fingers up to you especially if your own club is in the toilet
