ORCS 5 saw a new look Antomic and ArmanAnt 2 take to the arena.

Antomic sadly had its new flipper torn off and chassis damaged in its first fight, which hindered it for the rest of the competition. It went 1-4, thankfully winning its final fight.

ArmamAnt 2 did slightly better, going 2-3, with the new detachable front forks being a bit…too detachable! Something to fix..! It did very well in the side event, the bit gathering game, where it managed to reach the final!

That’ll be my last event for a while; a house move has put paid to any free time I’ll have for a while, but I hope to be in a position to attend events again in 2025

Attended ORCS 4 last Saturday, where I debuted a new antweight; Steg-Ant-Saur-Us! Unfortunately a poorly designed weapon meant it broke in testing, and I had to use it as pure pusher bot. Event though it went 0-5, the early signs are promising; just need to redesign the flipper mechanism and learn to drive the thing!
ArmamAnt! 2 did well as ever, going 3-2 and narrowly loosing in the playoffs for a place in the top 16. It needs a new chassis after the current one got split.

AWS 70 was a brutal event for me; Antomic drew three nasty spinners in a row, and took a beating! RBMK did the worst of it, so time for a new version! ArmamAnt 2 lost both its fights, but the event was still a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one!

The team is ready for AWS 69 (nice!), with new looks designs for Antomic and ArmamAnt 2.

Antomic’s chassis has been slightly tweaked so that I can fit bigger wheels in, and allow the damn thing to drive! Hopefully the flipper should be more powerful as well.

ArmamAnt 2 has a whole new look; beefed up walls, a longer chassis, with a new anti-vert set up (by removing the polycarbonate wedge).

Can’t wait to see how they do!

AWS 68 wasn’t a success for me, I went 0-6. But given I had virtually no time before the event to work on my robots to fix their problems, I wasn’t surprised.

New versions of Antomic and Fall Out Bot had too low a ground clearance, which meant I couldn’t drive in anything other than a circle.
ArmamAnt’s bodged Polycarb wedge (superglued on that morning), survived well. Unfortunately the rest didn’t! A blow by Combatant snapped the back wall, and structurally compromised the chassis. So time for a new version!

The plan going forward is to take a break from events, to fix the problems with my Ants and get new designs ready for my next event in November.

Attended the first ORCS (Oxfordshire Robot Combat Society) event on Saturday. Not the best event for me, Antomic went 2-3 & ArmamAnt 2 went 1-4 and both failed to make the last 8, but still a very fun event with plenty of fight time

AWS 67 was my most successful AWS yet, in terms of number of fights won!

Fall Out Bot…after I spent so long sorting out any gremlins, lasted two hits in its first fight vs Vampire; each hit destroying one motor and tyre each. Leaving it beyond repair and having to forfeit its next fight.

Antomic, despite still being awful to drive, put in a good showing and finished 2-2, which included a win again former champions Team Phyte’s Little Sytes!

But ArmamAnt 2: JP’s revenge had the best event, winning it’s first ever AWS fight at the seventh(!) attempt. Despite absolutely being destroyed by The Undertaker, and losing a wheel, it managed to pull out a win (admittedly helped a lot by the loose tyre gumming up our opponent’s weapon!). After a fairly lengthy repair job, it ran as a three wheeled robot, and more than held it’s own before losing to reigning champions PANTHERK II, ending with a 2-2 record.

Going forward; MicroNewton and Antomic will get new chassises, ArmamAnt 2 will be retired but replaced by a new version. As for Fall Out Bot; there was promise in the design, it just needs new wheels and motors…

Introducing Fall Out Bot! An antweight thwackbot, which hasn’t gone entirely to plan..! I didn’t have time to order the weapon hammer, so I had to improvise with some MDF hands.

Also a bit late, but a month ago I was invited to take part in Robot Club 5, where I entered the same three robots as I did for AWS 65.

Antomic fell in the group stages 1-2. ArmamAnt 2 also went 1-2, but was entered as a lucky loser into the playoffs (where it lost). Disappointing showings from my new robots.

MicroNewton, however, was my standout performer; she finished the group stages 2-1, won her playoff fight to make the last 16 bracket, and managed to make it all the way to the final, losing to Dave’s Satanix jr.

MicroNewton was also entered into the 2v2 event, which I won along with Martin and saw me win my first trophy in combat robotics! I also took part in the “pass the transmitter” competition, reaching the final and losing to Luke. All in all, a fun day and a successful one!

After this event, I decided to retire this version of MicroNewton (I think she deserves to go out on a high), and am currently working on a new design. Antomic also needs an upgrade, and I’ll try and have a new robot built for AWS 67 too.

Very very late AWS 65 write up!

Not the most successful day, with MicroNewton going 0-2 and both ArmamAnt 2: JP’s Revenge and Antomic going 1-2; albeit the former’s was a forfeit win vs Antomic.

Unfortunately I had to miss AWS 66 in York in January for personal reasons, but I’ll be attending AWS 67 in three weeks time! combatrobotics

The team is ready for AWS 65 at UEA tomorrow. MicroNewton and Antomic return, along with a new version of ArmamAnt!

Introducing ArmamAnt 2: JP’s Revenge; quicker, slightly taller, and better designed than the first version, I look forward to seeing how it does in the arena.

On Thursday MicroNewton was one of only 6 competitors that took part in a small event organised by , my first event in 6 months.

Despite losing the opening fight due to the switch being turned off, MicroNewton managed to make it through the loser’s melee all the way to the final, finishing runner up to newcomer Domino.

It was a great event, with some fantastic fights along the way, and the crowd really got into it! Next step is getting ready for AWS 65 in Norwich in three weeks time.
