A recent trip to Norway I walked up to the Briksdal glacier. It was a stunning thing to see how much it had receded up the valley in the last few decades

Hey there,
It's been a while I know. Now that we're able to go out to the wilds with some degree of safety here's a short video on how I manage my guy lines.
The preparation is for when the weather is grim, it's dark and I need them in a rush. I hope you find it useful.

An early morning start as day was breaking saw these three trees and the woodland giving me a gentle directional pointer.
Which way are the trees pointing?...

Clue: the trees are quite exposed and being bent in line by the wind. Which direction does the wind predominantly blow from-to in the uk?

My week in the lakes has been an eventful one. The drive up was dry and sunny, attempting to lull me into a false sense of security. It was wet all week. With just enough sun to mostly dry out before the next down pour.
We bagged a few hills and a night in a Bothy following a late night hill climb in the dark.

Making char-cloth in preparation for a fire lighting workshop.
This process has been around for hundreds if not thousands of years.
The charing process creates a significantly larger surface area that is much more likely to take a spark.
And if kept dry it will last for ever.

The classic abseil, as I was taught it, but more frequently known as the emergency rappel.
Used when you don't have a harness.
It is rather uncomfortable especially in the crotch area. The rope does not run freely as it would through a figure of 8, and you end up all crunched up as the rope shortens, but it gets you out of bother if stuck.
