The Miracle Of Birth!
As she strolled into triage room, she didn't look like she was doing a lot as we exchanged greetings with a smile.
Initial checks confirmed mother and fetus doing well. Then the next contraction came, and she was bearing down with pain. She couldn't control it.
A quick exam confirmed baby was ready to be born, and she was encouraged to actively push.
She started doubting her ability to do what she was already doing as she screamed "I can't do it", but she was prompted and reassured that she was doing great.
With few pushes, a healthy baby was delivered onto the mother's chest with a big cry that melted hearts.
I said "congratulations" with a big smile, and she looked at me with the biggest smile and said "thank you".
After over 20yrs of practising midwifery, every birth remains unique and reminds me why I want to always be a midwife.
Happy International Midwives Day!
