After the bustle of yesterday’s Open Day, today was relatively calm – although Mr Wind had other plans!

It was a more “normal” Sunday, with both racing and casual sailing taking place. It was particularly lovely to see Peter out on the water today, having joined the club as a result of yesterday’s Open Day and already getting involved in sailing.

We also had Janet learning the ropes of race management alongside experienced Race Officer Matt. Race Officers are vital to our racing programme, and it would be wonderful to see more women taking on the role in the future. Out on Safety Boat duty, Catherine and Nicola – two recently qualified PB2 members – supported each other through their first duty in what proved to be some challenging conditions. It was great to see two women taking on the role, and hopefully their example will encourage more female members to get involved in safety boat duties in the future.

Despite the windy conditions, it was another enjoyable and rewarding day on the water.

What a fantastic day at Ulley Sailing Club’s Open Day!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to visit us and to all our members who helped make the day such a success. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying their time on and around the water.

A quick summary of the day:

⛵ 77 people registered for a sailing experience.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 9 families registered an interest in membership, with 4 joining on the day.

🙋 4 new individual memberships were taken out.

🎓 2 students expressed an interest in joining.

We were delighted to welcome Coincillor Haroon Rashid
Rotherham Mayor, who spent time talking with both visitors and members, along with two council officials who enjoyed experiencing sailing for themselves. It was a great opportunity to showcase our club and the fantastic community we have at Ulley.

The Rotherham Advertiser also attended and will be featuring the club next week. They have already shared a video on their social media channels.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and supported the event. We look forward to welcoming many of our visitors back to the club soon!

And there’s no rest for the wicked! Next Saturday we host the North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing event at Ulley, welcoming young sailors and their families from across Yorkshire and the North East. It promises to be another fantastic day for the club, and we’ll once again be looking forward to seeing our members pull together to give our visitors a warm Ulley welcome.

It’s our biggest day of the year – Open Day!

We’re all set and ready to welcome visitors, whether you’d like to try your hand at sailing or simply enjoy our beautiful home at Ulley Country Park

Join us from 10am for a fantastic day on and off the water. A highlight of the day will be the visit of Rotherham Mayor, Councillor Haroon Rashid, who be joining us at 11.30am.

On Sunday, we’ll be back on the water for our usual member racing and casual sailing sessions.

Elsewhere this weekend, the North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing Event is taking place at Filey Sailing Club, with Joe Kilner competing and George Panter supporting the event. Best of luck, Joe – we’ll all be cheering you on!

We look forward to seeing you at Ulley Sailing Club this weekend.

🌟 Volunteers’ Week 2026 🌟

This week, we join organisations across the UK in celebrating Volunteers’ Week and saying a huge THANK YOU to everyone who gives their time to make a difference.

Our club is proudly 100% volunteer run. From race management and safety cover to galley duties, maintenance, administration, events, training and everything in between, our members volunteer their time and skills to keep the club running and thriving.

Every member plays a part through club duties, helping to create the welcoming and vibrant sailing community we all enjoy. We are especially grateful to our dedicated Management Committee, whose hard work behind the scenes ensures the club continues to move forward, and to our volunteer instructors who generously share their knowledge and passion to help others develop their skills and confidence on the water.

Many of our members also volunteer beyond the club, supporting the wider sailing community through NEYSSA events and taking on volunteer roles with the RYA. Their commitment helps sailing flourish far beyond our own waters.

Simply put, we would not be here without our volunteers. Your enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to help make this club what it is.

To every volunteer – whether you’re visible on the water, working behind the scenes, or helping at events – thank you. Your contribution matters, and it is greatly appreciated.

Happy Volunteers’ Week! ⛵👏

Club members may recognise a face or two on this video. Some of our members volunteer further afield with George and Hannah helping supporting NEYSSA. George is also a member of the RYA Regional Volunteer Team.

We were delighted to welcome Jake Richards MP to Ulley Sailing Club. Alongside discussing our wonderful club, we also discussed several issues affecting the club, particularly access to the site and our concerns regarding the condition of our current building, as well as the Council’s plans for its replacement.

We hope Jake will continue to support the club and champion these matters, helping us make Ulley Sailing Club more accessible, and better equipped to serve even more people from across the local area.

We appreciate the time he took to visit us and his offer to support the club where he can as we work towards securing a sustainable future for Ulley Sailing Club. ⛵🤞
