A recap of our men's fixtures over the weekend 🔙
Out 1XI travelled to play Norton Woodseats and chose to field first. The hosts were 67-5 around the halfway point before building partnership to keep the scoreboard ticking over. They ended 184 all out. Skipper Tom Exley with 2, Jack Meek with 3-50 and Charlie Armitage with 4-54.
In reply, half the wickets were gone with only 22 runs on the board. Skipper Tom Exley (61) was joined by Ben Askey (49) and the pair put on a magnificent 125 partnership. We unfortunately then lost our last four wickets for just 14 runs to finish 28 runs short.
The 2XI welcomed Maltby Miners to Queen Street and our visitors asked us to have a bat. Newly reinvented opening-batting-all-rounder Matt Scholey (36) got us off to a good start whilst three wickets fell at the other end. At 91-5 the game hung the balance when the experienced pair of Michael Brown (56) and Marcus Hoyland came together. A 75 run partnership saw us get up to 166-6 and some big hitting from Marcus and Paul Dalton saw us post 222-6. Marcus finishing 77 not out.
In reply, the visitors were unable to build big partnerships with wickets falling regularly. Some tight bowling and excellent fielding left Maltby behind the run rate. Victory by 61 runs was sealed by a fantastic catch in the deep by Ben. Stand out figures of 4-29 from Paul Dalton, 2 each for Matt and Marcus.
The Sunday XI welcomed South Kirkby to Queen Street and we fielded first. Another wicket in the first over for Jack Gillespie (2-21) set us going. Four of the Under 15s bowled well around the experienced senior players, Joe M and Jack D with a wicket each. 2-20 for Michael Brown and standout figures of 3-14 for Charlie Armitage. 169-9 the score at tea.
In reply a opener Jack Meek scored 30, as we reached 75-4. Jack Gillespie joined Brownie (59 not out) in the middle and scored a brutal unbeaten 57 from just 35 balls, sharing a 95 run partnership, to see us home by 6 wickets.
