One of the things I enjoy most about coaching is being part of the start of a player’s journey

This season I’ll be working with the U14 group alongside Steve, who I’ve coached with for many years, and Joel, who is beginning his own coaching journey

Three coaches. Different experiences. Same goal

Create an environment where players can learn, improve and enjoy the game

The wins and losses will take care of themselves

Our focus will always be on development

People often assume coaching is about drills, tactics and game plans

Those things matter

But for me, coaching has always been about people

Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working with players across different age groups and ability levels. Some have gone on to play at a high level, some play recreationally, and some simply enjoy being around the game

The goal is always the same

Help players improve
Help them understand the game
Help them enjoy the game

Whether that’s with Sheffield Junior Sharks, 1822 Basketball, refereeing or simply talking basketball with players and parents, I’m still learning every day and trying to pass that knowledge on

Basketball has given me opportunities, friendships and experiences I never expected

Coaching is my way of giving something back

Recently had the opportunity to be a table official for Sheffield Varsity Basketball

It was a great atmosphere and great games between and

My games were the 3rds and 2nds, it was great to see players playing hard and with lots of enthusiasm and energy

Reminds me why we do the things we do
