Match Day #24 |
Handsworth travelled to Staveley for a tough midweek fixture, with the squad stretched due to injuries and several players featuring despite not being fully fit.
The game began slowly for Handsworth, and they were quickly on the back foot, finding themselves 3–0 down within the first ten minutes. A change in formation helped settle things, allowing Handsworth to grow into the game and regain some control. However, just before the break, Staveley were awarded a penalty, extending their lead to 4–0 at half-time.
At the start of the second half, Handsworth were forced into a further change as our goalkeeper picked up an injury. Molly stepped up to take the gloves and produced an excellent performance between the posts.
The second half saw a much-improved Handsworth side, who showed great determination and spirit, taking control for large spells. Molly was called into action on several occasions and did superbly to prevent Staveley from adding to their tally. Up front, Maisie proved a constant threat, causing problems and panic in the Staveley defence. As the game progressed, the commitment of the squad was clear to see, with Amy, Kim, Paige, Eden, and others battling through pain and fatigue, giving everything for the team.
Despite the 4–0 defeat, Handsworth can take real positives from their performance after a difficult start, showing resilience, character, and quality in the second half.

Molly Elliott delivered a fantastic all-round performance, stepping up for the team in multiple positions when it was needed most. In the first half, she was asked to drop into midfield to help settle the game’s tempo, where she showed composure and awareness on the ball. She was then moved out to the right, where she impressed with her forward runs and willingness to support both attack and defence.
In the second half, Molly was called upon to take on the goalkeeper role due to injury, and she rose to the challenge brilliantly. She produced a solid display between the posts, making several important saves to prevent Staveley from extending their lead.
A true team player who never let the side down—well done, Molly 🖤🧡
Maisie put in a tireless performance leading the line, proving to be a constant threat to the Staveley defence throughout the game. Her movement, footwork, and confidence on the ball allowed her to take on defenders and create opportunities for both herself and her teammates.
She linked play well with intelligent passing and never stopped working, showing real determination and drive to push Handsworth forward, even in difficult moments.
A strong and committed performance—well done, Maisie 🧡🖤
