A magic day completing the Welsh 3000s. It’s a very special route with the aim of completing a south to north traverse of the 15 mountains in the Eryri (Snowdon) range with an altitude over 3,000 feet in a time of less than 12 hours. We had unusually bright and dry conditions but a strong easterly wind made for challenging going. Why not contact Open Gates Outdoors if you would like to be supported to enjoy this unique challenge….

Last week Open Gates Outdoors successfully delivered a three day outdoor programme to 12 new apprentices of Gripple Limited in Sheffield. The activities included forest school, strategy games, hill walking, a residential and, under the excellent supervision of Grow UK, landscaping works (designing and building a pond). The activities were all focussed on specific skills agreed with Gripple. Feedback from the apprentices during evaluation was very positive. It was a privilege to work with such a motivated responsible and talented group of young people. Thanks to all those who contributed to the three days as instructors or delegates.

On 15 June Open Gates Outdoors enjoyed being part of the team of mountain leaders that supported the charity Chapter One on their successful completion of a challenging route in the Lake District. The route had a total ascent equivalent to that of climbing Everest from base camp. The charity were raising funds to support its work mentoring boys growing up without fathers. Thanks to Will4Adventure for coordinating the challenge.

Open Gates Outdoors led a group of young people in the care of the Sheffield homeless charity Roundabout and trainee Occupational Therapists on placement at the charity on a walk along Froggatt Edge and White Edge. Great fun was had by all and special well done to the expert navigator for map reading the whole way! Great views and we didn’t let the boggy bits get us down!
