Part of the park was gifted by Earl Fitzwilliam & Marquis of Zetland in 1909, with the remainder purchased by Sheffield City Council. Recent improvements include the Splash! project, located on the site of the old swimming pool and lido and reintroduces water play into the park, many years after the lido was closed and filled in. It is an interactive play area designed to be both playful and educational with kit such as an Archimedes screw, hand pumps and see saws that pump water into a large snaking channel, where it can be dammed in several places before being scooped by a water wheel and fed into a recycling tank. The water then feeds the toilets, can be used to water plants and tops up the boating lake. The Fishway project has seen the old paddling pools filled in and converted into natural habitat that will allow fish such as trout to bypass the two weirs on the River Sheaf and move upstream to spawn. The design is very complex and incorporates rock pools, overhangs and resting places and mimics their natural habitat as much as possible. We hope you all get to make the most of the summer months and enjoy all the park has to offer. We get masses of queries at this time of year, so please find below information on the most frequently asked questions:

The park is a public open space, free to enter, and open all day until dusk. That includes the water splash, the playground and the basketball courts.

Pay and display parking is available, with car parks at each end of the park.

The toilets close at 6pm.

The boats, tennis and cafe are run by private operators. You will find contact details for the Pudding Ladies (cafe) and Tennis Sheffield (tennis) online, and the boats on Facebook at Swan Boats Millhouses Park Sheffield.

There is no lost property facility in the park. If you lose or find items you can add a post on our Millhouses Park Sheffield Lost and Found page so that owners or finders can get in touch.

Hopefully that covers most questions! Please help take care of the park by taking your litter home or using the many bins available, by not using barbecues within the park, and by cleaning up after your dogs, so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable time there.

Join the Spring Bird Walk on Sunday 3 May🐦

Meet at 8am at the foot of the steps into the park from Archer Road. An easy-paced walk through the park returning through part of Ecclesall Woods. All welcome. Children must be supervised. The walk should last about two and a half hours. Pete Brown, the walk leader, has a number of pairs of binoculars to borrow on the day.
