Well after a big break due to covid and ‘other’ things, I was on the erg for the first time in 3 months when the chain broke.

Got to dismantle it to find out exactly what it is before ordering parts. Once done, I’ll be back training, this time for a 60+ wr relay. This will probably take place in late spring, early summer.

I’ll keep you posted as it will be another fund raising event.

It’s eventually come around. I’m on the telly! I raised £5k from the Freemasons for this Sheffield charity. As a result the charity, and the tremendous lady who is responsible, is going to be shown on BBC’s One Show tonight under the One Big Thankyou segment.

With apologies to my Red Line Rowers friends. I’ve copied the original post from the RLR site.

I think the phrase is, ‘!t’s better to have tried and failed rather than never tried at all’. Well, tonight was my time to use that phrase. I am pulling out of the 100k.

I was dreading the session tonight and thought I’d mix it up by doing 4x15’r2. I got to 12’ and stopped. Tried 3x10’r2 and pulled up at 8’.

My heart said ignore this. It will improve. My head said ‘that’s it’. For once I took the advice of the head.

I shall take time out and come back with sprint trading, hopefully for the year end comps.

Off for a month with illness plus a February week with the grandkids.

Had a week of gentle sessions and am near to deciding on attempt 3.

Started in earnest yesterday with a steady 20k. Putting a strategy together that’s different from the first 2 attempts in a move that takes me away from ‘if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got’ approach.

Slow start tomorrow after the Xmas break although not in pace. Will be experimenting with a view to identifying my max HR. The usual method is 220 -age which gives me a Hr of150. The new method calculates me at 167. I’ll see what it says tomorrow. I know it’s going to be painful but hopefully it should be useful learning in the run up to attempt no. 3.

This week has been overtaken by Xmas and new year. A new training schedule that takes a session upto the max distance has now been built and will start Jan 3rd with a gentle 20k that starts 10 sessions a month plus 4 PT and 1 physio session.

Once this week is out of the way, it’s full on until May ‘23 (date and venue to be announced). As before, I’m supporting the same 5 charities.

Another 60’ at a faster pace than the last one. This one was very satisfying as it knocked over 4 seconds off the pace from the last one 2min 18.2 secs to 2mins 14 secs per 500 metres.The other plus was that I went the full 60’ for a faster time but missed out on a season best by 3 seconds

Saturdays session shortened as common sense took hold and I opted for a 60’ at a steady stroke rate. Happy with that and will ease myself back in upto January then it’s all systems go for attempt number 3!

Well, after 2 weeks on a cruise, eating 4/5 times a day we returned yesterday to getting back on my head training today. It will be steady and as long as I can go for (bearing in mind England play today!).

Onwards and upwards folks!

Following an analysis on the weekends effort’s I have opted to go again in May 2023. The training focus changes slightly but the ultimate goal is still the same. My nominated charities are the same (I hope!) and, as before, I hope to raise cash that contributes to their funds
