Actions are where we start. Through actions we find motivation, from there we create discipline and form habits that serve us when our motivation inevitably leaves.

Consistency within your training will be highest when you find the right combination of fun and challenge.

This will look different for everyone.

This probably won’t be a 50/50 split.

This won’t always be the same.

We have periods of time where we need more challenge, we have periods of time where we want to enjoy training more.

Understanding where you are at and what you want is a sure way to stay consistent with your training.

Friday thoughts 🧠

I love and hate social media at the same time. It can be used to help so many people in such an accessible way.

However

I still find it tough seeing people pushing ridiculous narratives when it comes to fitness, often for some sort of gain.

Coaching is about interactions and individual understanding, not some quick fix plan or attention grabbing videos.

Too often we see high skilled movements been thrown together in workouts for people who just simply are not ready for them.

We need to build people up through gradual exposure to skill and movement, not just throw it at them and hope they get it.

Let’s make the movement fit the individual not the individual fit the movement.

Sooo the next challenge …

July 15th Yorkshire 3 peaks marathon.

It’s a big one. I will be running this as a fundraiser for with my good friend

The Newman Holiday Trust changes lives, it’s that simple. They offer amazing opportunities and experiences to children with complex social, mental and educational needs.
I first got involved with the charity three years ago and I can honestly say it changed the way see things today. The happiness and joy on the children’s faces gives you an amazing dose of perspective. Every child deserves the chance to have care free fun and the Newman Holiday Trust give them that in bucket loads, from swimming and zoo trips to theme parks.
The charity is only funded by donations so any contribution will have a direct impact on every child that is able to attend the holidays.

The body is designed to deal with some stress. It’s super easy with all the gadgets and data we have to convince ourselves we feel a certain way.

Just because your watch says you didn’t get 8 hours sleep doesn’t mean you can’t get up and give things a go!

I’ve been doing a little bit of reflecting over the last week on some of the common things I’ve found throughout my coaching and through clients journeys.

It’s easy to beast someone, but to create progression requires a level of development and increased awareness. That takes time.

Demos are essential. A picture paints a thousand words.

The same thing can be said but interpreted differently. Delivery is important.

A NEW CHAPTER

Tomorrow is officially my last day as a trainer at VisionFit, it’s a place I’ve called home for the last 2 and a half years. Early mornings, late nights and some truly amazing people. It’s a place that enabled me to grow as a coach and I will forever be grateful for that. I honestly wish Vision all the luck for the future.

As one chapter ends and new one begins. There’s some amazing things happening over the next few months and I can’t wait for you all to see it.

We wouldn’t get dental advice from anyone who wasn’t a dentist would we? So why when it comes to fitness do we seem to get so much info from people who aren’t in that space?

Don’t get me wrong there are some amazing bits of info out there and some of it is very valid. However, 99% of all podcasts/documentary’s I have seen have some form of hidden agenda or have cherry picked data studies that align with their bias, rather than looking at the wider picture.

It’s no surprise that there is so much misinformation out there in the fitness space. I get that documentaries and media want to create interest through certain narratives, however it if often at the expense of context and accuracy.

If you have questions speak to people who work in the industry. Fitness and nutrition is not simple and is not the same for everyone. That’s why it’s so important to get info from those who have experience helping a large number of individuals.

What actually is progression?

- The process of developing or moving gradually towards a more advanced state.

We know that we want to constantly moving forward in our training, but how do we do that? What are the systems in place that enable us to know we are progressing?

We have to look back and think, what is the goal? Once we a clear on the goal we can develop metrics that will act as markers to track our progression towards that goal.

What are the points along our road that indicate that we are heading in the right direction?

What do these metrics look like?
They can be all sorts.
A timed run.
Testing of certain skills/lifts.
Reaching a certain weight.
The list could be endless.

What’s important is that there is a process with systems and markers in place that enable us to see our progression.
