Its been hard for me to find the words to write this post as anything I’ve tried to put down just doesn’t really reflect how I feel about our team, and in particular this group of women (+ 2 others other not in the main photo).
This weekend 9 of us from our gym took part in the She-Ultra, female only, 50km ultra marathon in Wales.
None of us have ever run or walked that distance before so as you can imagine the training alone leading up to the event has been tough. Hours and hours of running/walking in all weathers whilst also had to managing life responsibilities, work, and everything else thrown at us women. And our poor families have had to fend for themselves most weekends 🙊
On Friday we arrived in Wales to news that the weather wasn’t going to be our friend on race day. Strong gales and rain were predicted and I don’t think any of us were prepared for what was thrown at us on the day - 45 mph wind, rain, hail, sand blown at us, sun, rainbows, you name it we experienced it 😫
Despite all of this and some other technical issues during the race (route changes, and long delays at various stages) everyone finished the race on Saturday, in their own time, & in their own way. It’s no easy feat tackling an ultra marathon and this one was particularly challenging due to the weather but our team of bad ass women showed they had an abundance of resilience, strength, and determination. Alongside all of this the team support along the way has been just incredible 🥰. Throughout this we’ve all needed the support of one another at some point along the way.
To say we are proud is an understatement as, according to statistics only 0.00002 % of the worlds population have completed an ultra marathon so our gang is (as we already know) very, very unique and stronger than I think even they realised.
And to top it all off we also managed to raise over £3000 for 3 local charities that support women 😘
Well done everyone, you’re all amazing ❤️
