London City Lionesses have had an amazing summer and they just keep on making the headlines.

The team’s first summer in the top tier of the WSL was peppered with new acquisitions including former England goalie, Mary Earps and two times Ballon D’Or winner, World Cup winner and Barcelona legend Alexia Putellas.

Let’s remember that these Lionesses are the only team in the WSL who don’t have a men’s team in the background; they are fully independent. The team’s owner, Michele Kang announced last week that Nike have signed a multi-year front-of-shirt deal, record breaking in global women’s sport and a larger deal than some within the Premier League.

Interesting that the first game of the new WSL season was against Manchester United which hit the headlines last year after comments made by the club’s head of Sporting Operations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. He made it very clear that he doesn’t care about the women’s team when he asked the women’s team captain, Katie Zelem, what her role at the club was. Google him - he makes a lot of controversial comments.

London City Lionesses played at home in Bromley on Friday night and beat Manchester United 2-1. Ellen White commented post match on how the Lionesses didn’t have one British player on the field.

If you’re starting a new exercise regime, here are 3 simple things to consider:

1. Make sure your exercise routine is manageable and achievable.
If you create unrealistic goals, you’re unlikely to achieve them so you’ll be quickly derailed. Best to design small goals and consistently build over time than go big and fail.
2. Make it fun and you’ll stick at it. Enjoy it and you’ll keep going. This could mean adapting the activity and trying a few until you find something that excites you. And enjoying it can mean the feeling at the end. 😉
3. Just do it. As the Nike ads say, just do it. Just start. Just put the trainers on. Get in the pool. Go to the weight room and lift something light. It’s a start and you’re doing it. Small steps. Big results.

It’s just over a week ago since Maiden Cricket appeared on Dragon’s Den.

Congratulations to Honor, Cat, Nicole and all the Maiden Cricket team on their amazing performance and success. The sisters told their story with such poise and made the business case for female-focused cricket wear so well. As a father of sporty daughters, Gary Neville was enamoured with the brand and its great kit and clothing straightaway.

Maiden was the first brand to launch in the We are Girls in Sport x Little Big Sports store last November. We love Maiden’s story, their mission and importantly, the kit and clothing the sisters have designed and tested for cricket-playing girls and young women.

We knew we wanted to support them in attracting more girls to cricket and helping them continue to play thanks to kit that’s designed for them.

Good luck to Maiden Cricket over the coming months. We look forward to seeing the results of their, dare we say, easy conquest of the dragons!

TED LASSO shout out! We’re loving this season already as it tackles many of the issues faced by girls and women in sport. We loved the free period wear in the new women’s team changing rooms. This is what all sports changing rooms and sports venues should have! If you’re not sure why changing rooms and sports venues should provide free period wear, drop us a DM.

Happy dance for a new brand in the WAGIS x LBS shop! Eleven as One is footy kit designed for older girls and young women. Founder Julia saw a gap in the market after a disappointing shopping trip for girls’ football kit (we’ve all been there, right?).

We’re stocking this blue training kit - the shorts are super popular with their double waistband and we love the tops with this gorgeous detail on the back.

Ireland rugby union’s Grace Moore Grace Moore is one of our speakers and recently spoke at a Girls in Sport event at Tonbridge Juddians RFC Academy .

TJ’s is one of the leading academies in the country so we were privileged to be asked to source a speaker.

Head of Academy, Gareth Withers said, ‘Grace gave a great insight into her journey to the top of the game and I felt it covered a lot of aspects that would be relatable to our young audience. She spoke well about adversity and resilience and answered questions from the floor well. She presented herself fantastically and stayed around to talk to people well after the event finished.’

Female Academy Captain, Delyth Huddart said, ‘I think having Grace Moore come as a speaker was exciting and inspiring, because it was good to hear from a current player who’s playing at such a high level. I enjoyed hearing her talk about her journey and how it wasn’t linear, and how her rugby career started later on in life. I think that my biggest takeaway from hearing her speak was that people will find you when the time is right, and that the most important thing to do as a player is to always enjoy what you are doing and making sure it’s the right thing for you.’
