Yesterday was National Pilates Day 🤍
I had the pleasure of joining a wonderful group of Island instructors at Quay Arts, coming together to share our passion for Pilates through a full day of teaching and movement.
I first discovered Pilates during Covid, at a time when everything in my life was shifting. Redundancy was looming in my airline job, and I knew I’d soon be moving back home to the Island. Life was about to change in so many ways.
A friend of my sister’s, Lottie – a Pilates instructor from London – ran a 7-day early morning course. We dragged ourselves out of bed each day… and I quickly became hooked.
I was already fit and active, but this felt completely different. I was working muscles I didn’t even know existed. It not only strengthened my body but supported my mental health and improved my posture — something I had always struggled with.
That experience inspired me to invest my redundancy money into training at YMCA in King’s Cross. It was intense, with just as much theory as practical (and a lot of support from Mum along the way 🤍), but I did it — and began my teaching journey.
Since then, I’ve grown from teaching 2 classes a week to 11… from 4 clients in a class to 16.
Why? Because Pilates works.
It does ease back pain.
It does improve posture.
It’s low impact, yet incredibly effective — making it accessible, but still challenging and rewarding.
Pilates is for all ages. All abilities.
It’s for you.
I’m so grateful for my Pilates community and all the support I’ve had along the way ❤️
✨
Here’s a little testimony from one of my lovely new Pilates friends…
“I started Pilates at the end of January during a really difficult time in my life, after losing my dog. I was looking for something gentle but effective—something to support both my body and mind.
Living with an autoimmune condition, I needed low-impact exercise that still felt meaningful—and Pilates has completely changed my life.
I feel stronger, more flexible, and have fewer flare-ups. The movements are controlled and mindful, so it never feels overwhelming, but you know your body is working.
More than that, it’s had a huge impact on my mental health—I leave each session feeling calmer, more grounded, and genuinely better in myself.
Meg is an incredible teacher—kind, supportive, and welcoming. She creates such a safe, encouraging environment, and that’s made all the difference.
I truly feel like a different person since starting Pilates, and I’m so grateful I took that first step.”✨
