The Sunday travelled to Premier League side Groundhoppers, 4 leagues above in the Presidents Charity Cup.

Rovers started quickly and got through on goal a few times. But our opponents were showing signs of quality and got a penalty from a Rovers handball. saves, shock to no-one from Rovers side. then scored another free kick, putting the Rovers ahead. The defence thought we would test Zac’s penalty stopping again, by another handball in the box, however our opponents equalised. But a few minutes later, Rovers quickly took the lead back with on the half volley.

Second half, we grew a lot more into the game, with and both outpacing the defence and putting Rovers 4-1 up. Massive victory for us, with the whole squad playing a big part.

Into the next round and another big cup win 💚⚽️🦊

GSGR 3 - 1 Ravensbury Rovers. Second round of the County Cup saw a familiar, but slightly different opposition. Ravensbury started fast and were up for it the whole game. We managed the storm and started to play some football but didn’t trouble their keeper. With 5 minutes of the half left, every centre back’s dream, ball at your feet on the half way line, with no one near you. Whispers of Stevie G, the gaffer put GSG ahead.

Second half GSG got more of a foothold in the game, but a pinpoint strike saw the game go 1-1. The oppo pushed, but GSG held strong and a great passage of play saw head us into the lead. Luckily the ref. waved away a random offside flag for the goal to stand. killed the game with a free kick to send GSG to the next round.

2 weeks in a row, we have been way off the pace but still got the wins. Something we have struggled to do in the past. Back to league action next week 💚⚽️🦊

First match report in a while

So we started the day with 13 players. By the time we kicked off at 2pm we had 10. The lads knew it was going to be tough from there on but myself and captain Dave made sure they knew there was no pressure to win as such. Yes it was a big game for us after a rubbish month so far, but we would rather take a good performance with a loss than try to win a game under pressure and come out with a 5-0 plus, scoreline. We set up with amazing 3-5-1 formation (about all we could do).

We were under it a little in the first 10-15 mins but soon got the hang of what was in front of us. Eventually West Farleigh got a goal which in my eyes was undeserved really. From then on we rolled up our sleeves and dug in. Even after a few got knocks, we still got on with it. We had chances with both new lads Abdo and Andre going close at times. Obviously they also had chances to finish the game, but resolute defending kept us in it. Unfortunately we run out of time so came away with a 1-0 loss. To say I’m beyond proud of the 10, is a massive understatement. Now we plan to get some more faces in and around this bunch, and climb up the league. Next week in Sutton Dynamo at home who are just under us so the proverbial 6 pointer this early in the season. Fingers crossed we get a good squad out again. Up the Rovers.
