After all this time not being able to race because of COVID. Restrictions have just started easing and meetings/ practice start becoming available now the rain has decided to take over and we have had one practice cancelled and now this weekends grass track in Roche has been cancelled due to lots of rain and a waterlogged track. Gutted is an understatement as done well there last year. So this weekend I will try to practice at Lydd on Sunday if the rain holds off. I will find out on Saturday evening once the track has been inspected and the forecast checked for Sunday. If it’s off then a call to Gary Cook to see what the weather is like in Scunthorpe where he is taking part in an amateur speedway championship. If I can get in and the weather looks ok could be a long night and camping in the car with bike. Let’s see what Mother Nature chooses for me this time.

For something different this weekend I’m entering the speedway meeting. It’s a 25th anniversary trophy meeting held over six meetings with your best three meetings being used as the final result towards the trophy. Unfortunately it is still behind closed doors down at Lydd but I will keep you posted with the result of my first meeting. The weather is supposed to be dry on Sunday but with a good watering from the heavens on Saturday. First speed by action of the season let’s see if we can get a good result. So a couple of weeks ago I had my first meeting of the year on the grass. There was some strong competition and was more than satisfied with finishing fifth in the A final. On the 4th of July at the same venue is the British upright championship with pretty much the same competition so to finish fifth or higher is my goal watch this space.

So the first meeting of the year at Bantasia 1 went a lot better than I thought. After having clutch problems in race 1 and managed to finish 5th. The next 2 heats I finished 4th which put me straight in to the A final. After a good start I managed to finish 5th overall against a strong field. Very pleased with my result on my first meeting. The changes we made to the bike over the winter made a big difference.
