Watching this clip back and editing it, I didn’t enjoy the it. My climbing looked scrappy, poor footwork and hesitation.

Then I remind myself of the fight, I nearly fell off on so many of the moves, screaming and grunting, digging deep refusing to give up.

To me sport climbing is about pushing my physical limit, working routes, learning their intricacies, body positions and sequences. Then going on redpoint where often the moves feel smooth and in flow even when trying hard, knowing what the next holds feel like.

This was my hardest flash, 7b, but it’s not about the grade, I’m most pleased that I didn’t give up, I kept fighting and scrapped my way to the top!

More early season trad routes for Mark and I at a very quiet and rarely visited Southern end of Twistleton Scar. Not a polished hold or placement on the whole crag, winner!

Some really varied routes, from cracks to steep walls and delicate slabs gave us a real variety of movement. Good to transfer some recent practice from the climbing wall to rock!

A brighter day followed with warm sunshine and little wind. Climbing in t-shirts, well long sleeve t-shirts so we didn’t get mangled by the rough grit at Ramshaw Rocks.

More cracks, laughs, grunts and power screams! Every route had character and required a certain umph to overcome!

1. Getting ready to pull into the upper wide crack of Battle of the Bulge.
2. Heading up to the big slot on Prostration.
3. Trying not to hang around for too long.
4. I hung around for too long, rest required.
5. Ben psyched for a battle.
6. Ramshaw Crack.
7. Ready for the crux of Brown’s Crack.
8. Alcatraz.
9. Louie’s Groove.

I’ve just been down on Staffordshire Grit for a couple of days dodging rain elsewhere. Ben and I had a cracker visiting a couple of new crags to us. Now I always thought Peak Grit was soft compared to the superior Yorkshire Gritstone crags 😉 Heck, we’ve had some fights the last couple of days, these Staffs crags are certainly harder than their Derbyshire counterparts.

First up Hen Cloud and a load of cracks! The grades just go out the window, just tape and glove up and have a go at the thing! A chilly day with an afternoon coffee to rewarm! 5 layers on for every climb!

Two contrasting days with this weekend!

Best weather of the winter for me on Saturday, 2 routes in Coire an t’Sneachda and type 1 fun all day, got Chris cruising around on great snow ice and we avoided the crowds.

Sunday however, rain at the carpark and on the walk in until we hit the freezing level and rain turned to snow swirling around the Coire. We climbed Invernookie, which was in the iciest condition I’d even climbed it! Great first time picks all the way!

Last week I was climbing out in Morocco with Thomas alongside .climbing and . What an absolutely amazing week with a stellar team who learnt and developed quickly as we progressed and sampled everything the stunning Moroccan Anti-Atlas region has to offer.

Mountain quartzite, granite cracks, big ridges and strong lines up grooves and corners. Couple the climbing with the Moroccan culture, what a mega adventure.

1. Thomas seconding up Dragon Ridge, Dragon Buttress. His first multi-pitch route.
2. Day 2, stepping it with 10 pitches of VS climbing on Rainbow Buttress. A complex crag requiring careful route finding and a real adventure feel to it.
3. Looking out across the Afantinzar area. Rock everywhere!
4. Hot hot hot in the valley 5 minutes from Tafraout centre. The stunning granite domes of the Tazka valley. Thomas heading up Pitch 1 of Mamma Mia, VS 4c.
5. Topping out on the top pitch of Dreamweaver with Mark abseiling down Mamma Mia in the background.
6. High on Infinity Ridge, 930m of Diff. Continuous rock provided interest all the way, a big smiles day!
