Is anyone else really enjoying emerging from underground trips to find it’s still light on an afternoon? Roll on spring!

Pictured - a secret underground spot in the North Pennines from 1828 - you’ll have to join in order to find out where 😉

If you think it’s been inclement in the Dales the last week, take a look at these photographs of Hawes in the winter of 1947! ‘Big coat’ weather indeed.

📸 photographs from the brilliant archive collection at the Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes (which is well worth a visit next time you’re staying at the club hut!)

It’s been a tad chilly up in the Dales this week! That means that it’s officially big coat weather. Don’t forget your thermal undersuit! Luckily our lovely club hut is toasty warm, as is the pub. ❄️

Can you guess the view? An iconic Dales trip - albeit one which will have been rather damp this week!

It’s a rainy old day here in Helwith Bridge! YSS has hosted a Geology Day with Dr John Helm - participants braved the wild weather to explore the fascinating geology of the area. Check on the CNCC page for more upcoming sessions, they’re fantastic. Now time for a cuppa!*

*by cuppa I obviously personally mean about five pints of Old Peculier and the remnants of a family size trifle that I forgot was in the fridge. Feel free to have a cup of tea if you’d prefer though, horses for courses and all that.

One from a past North Wales mine weekend - Cwmorthin is always an atmospheric and exhilarating trip, a place full of history. We usually run a trip down to North Wales every year, and it’s always popular! Get in touch for more information on our away weekends.

Don’t worry Lancastrians, you can still join Yorkshire Subterranean Society, and then at least you can get a bit of break from the dark satanic mills.

(Editors note: it’s all in jest, I love Lancastrians. If they’re rich and single).

Whisper it… but it almost feels like Spring here in the Dales! Our club hut, nestled in the heart of the Three Peaks, is the perfect place to catch some lesser-spotted sunshine. Just have a look on our website for details.

Plenty of room in Cherry Tree Hole! Spacious caving on the club trip last weekend. Our next weekend of caving is the 1st and 2nd of February, which is also our AGM weekend! I’m looking forward to the sticky toffee pudding at the AGM dinner already.

Thanks to Dave W for the photo.

When’s the last time you brushed up on passing a knot? I must admit, I needed a bit of a lie down after a few rounds of knot based acrobatics.

Our SRT wall is a brilliant facility where you can practice all your rope based tricks away from mud, waterfalls and other cavers judging your technique*. Next time a rainy day scuppers your plans, why not pop in instead? See on the YSS website for how to book.
