🌱 Day | Tuesday 8 September 🌱

Behind every great round of golf is a team of people who work tirelessly when nobody is watching.

Today, we want to say a huge thank you to the people who help make Drax Golf Club what it is.

👏 Thank you, Mark and Lee, for the hours, care and pride you put into looking after our course.

And an equally massive thank you to our army of volunteers. Whether you're out cutting, strimming, repairing, clearing, planting, maintaining or simply lending a hand when it's needed — your contribution makes a genuine difference.

It's particularly rewarding to see that hard work recognised by the people who visit us. Our recent reviews have repeatedly highlighted the condition and presentation of the course, the warm welcome they receive and the obvious pride taken in Drax. One recent visitor, himself a greenkeeper at another club, specifically praised Mark and the work being done at Drax.

Those comments mean a lot because we know just how much work goes on behind the scenes. 🌿

A golf course doesn't look after itself — and there's no golf without greenkeepers.

🏆 THREE IN A ROW FOR RUBY! 🏆

A huge congratulations to Ruby Sutton, who has been crowned Ladies Club Champion at The Oaks Golf Club & Spa for the third year running! 👏⛳

Ruby is also a member here at Drax Golf Club, alongside her dad Stephen, and it’s been fantastic to watch her progress over the last six years.

From seeing a young golfer develop her game to now seeing her achieve three consecutive Club Championships is something we’re incredibly proud to have been a small part of.

A brilliant achievement, Ruby — and we’re sure there’s plenty more to come! 🌟

⛳ Another wonderful review for Drax Golf Club

We love hearing from visitors who have discovered Drax for the first time — and Louise and Stephen, visiting from the Netherlands, certainly enjoyed their afternoon with us. 🇳🇱

After their round, they kindly got in touch to say:

“We had a wonderful afternoon there.”

They also described Drax as our “little gem golf course”, thanking the team for the hospitality, the warm welcome and for helping them get on their way around the course.

It’s always a pleasure to welcome visitors from near and far, and we’re delighted that the experience left such a positive impression.

⛳ Another great review for Drax Golf Club!

We were delighted to welcome Paul Barker, Greenkeeper at Cleethorpes Golf Club, to Drax today, making use of his BIGGA membership.

It’s always particularly pleasing when someone who works in the industry takes the time to share their experience — and Paul certainly had some lovely things to say about the course and the people behind it.

“Why can't all clubs be as friendly as yours?”

Paul also praised the work of Head Greenkeeper, Mark and our volunteer Alan, highlighting the passion they have for Drax and the course.

And his verdict on the golf?

“Your course is right up my street, shorter than most but with so many hidden dangers, and with the weather situation this year was in great condition. Greens a lot quicker than expected.”

Perhaps our favourite part of the review was the final verdict:

“Your website is quite correct; you really are a hidden gem.”

⛳ 100 HOLES. 35,000 STEPS. £535 RAISED! 💙

What a day!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported me today as I took on the Prostate Cancer UK Big Golf Race, attempting to complete 100 holes in a single day.

I can confirm that 100 holes and around 35,000 steps later, the legs are absolutely feeling it! 😂 And while it may not have been my finest display of golf, I’m incredibly proud to have completed the challenge.

So far, £535 has been raised through my fundraising page, with a further £50 in donations made to me on the course today.

I’d also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who walked holes with me, offered encouragement, helped with the trolley, donated, messaged, or simply wished me well. It genuinely made a huge difference getting through those final holes.

A special thank you to Drax Golf Club, who kicked things off with a £150 donation following the charity match against Mirfield, and to David Stokes for his incredibly kind gesture today.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. ❤️

Drax member Matthew Oliver is taking on the incredible challenge of completing 100 holes of golf in one day for Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race.

From the first tee shot to the final putt, Matthew will be putting his endurance, determination and love of golf to the ultimate test.

🚨 Sunday's the Big Day! 🚨

This Sunday, Drax member Matthew Oliver takes on his biggest golfing challenge yet — 100 holes in a single day for Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race.

That’s more than five full rounds of golf, countless swings, and a serious test of endurance! 💪⛳

Matthew has already shown incredible commitment in taking on this challenge, and we’re incredibly proud to support him.
