Seend’s mixed doubles team featured in Division 4 of the Chippenham and District tennis league with the fixtures having finished a week or so ago. The raw statistics were played 10, won 10, drew 0, lost 0. Out of 80 sets played Seend won 66.5. The game difference, ie games won over games lost was a monstrous 226. We will now be promoted to Division 3 for next season.
The end of season dinner when cups are presented will be on Friday 9th October at Trowbridge Rugby Club. I hope that a good number from Seend might be tempted to attend. Contact me for details.
Many thanks to all who turned out for the matches. They were as follows, with the number of matches each played alongside Karin 5, Fiona 4, Anna 4, Megan 2, plus Caron, Syd, Emilia, Lottie and Carrie who all played one match each. The men were Tom 5, Marek 5, Tim 4, Liam 3, Harry 3. Years ago we used to feature two men’s teams, a women’s team and two mixed teams in the league. The men’s A team even fought their way from division 6 right up to division 1. That team was drawn from just three families, the Newmans, Bergins and Goddards.
Would next year be the right time to now enter a women’s team ? If so they would start in division 5. I think that it would be a good idea particularly since we have so many women now playing and also with Megan having rejoined the club and Scout due to make her come back in September when she starts her job at Marlborough College. Finally can I again repeat my thanks to all who played and also to those who were ready on the sidelines if needed, plus the supporters club who regularly turned out, their numbers swelling to nearly 20 or so for the final match of the season, albeit that two doctors were in that number on standby in case any of the team required a medical time out. It was a great season. Frankie.
