🌞The sun's shining again at the weekend, so there's never been a better time to try out our friendly Saturday afternoon Rusty Racquets session. ESPECIALLY as it's completely FREE for the next 6 weeks🎉🥳

Maybe you played a bit as a child, have just had the odd social game over the years, or not played through injury or lack of time?

Rusty Racquets runs from 2pm and is aimed at relative beginners, improvers or those who simply haven’t picked up a racquet in a while. We can even lend you a (non-rusty!) racquet if you don’t have one.

Just turn up at the club or message us for more info 🎾🎾🎾

🎾At the end of , a shout-out to our many volunteers who keep the club running smoothly. Here are just a few of the jobs that rely on our volunteers to get done: captaining and organising a team, mowing and keeping the grounds looking tidy, brushing and cleaning the courts 🧹🧽, restocking the tea, coffee, milk and first aid supplies ☕️🫖🥛⛑️, miscellaneous clubhouse, equipment and grounds maintenance 👨🏽‍🔧👩🏼‍🔧, organising club tournaments, open days and other social events 🎉, plus all the specific activities and responsibilities of our committee members. Thanks to everyone for your contributions: they’re much appreciated! 🙏👏

Devon Ladies over 70’s vs Bucks

1st pair:- Joanna Lloyd (Capt) and Julie Hopkinson
2nd pair:- Barbara Robillard (Capt) and Jane Hamlin

Devon v Bucks away at Halton Tennis Centre. Result 3-1 win to Bucks

Bucks 1st pr beat Devon 1st pair 6-3, 6-2. Bucks 2nd pair lost to Devon 1st pair 2-6, 7-5, 0/1.

Bucks 2nd pair beat Devon 2nd pair 4-6, 6-1, 1/0. Devon 2nd pair lost to Bucks 1st pair 6-1, 6-4.

REPORT:-

This was Devon’s first county match of 2026. The decision made to see who would be the first or second pairing was made based on one pair not having played together before.

It was a nervous start for pair 1 which showed in their play. Too many unforced errors and the big points won by Bucks. They did not play to their potential. After the first match they regrouped. The second match was much tighter. The drop shots and overhead smashes were not as successful as usual so more lobs and angled drives provided the required win, though only done in the championship tie break.

Devon’s 2nd pair got off to a better start against Bucks 2nd pair taking the first set quickly. Bucks took the second set and the tie break could have gone either way but Bucks just clinched the win. Bucks first pair against Devon 2nd pair were better able to take advantage of the gaps on court and being more accurate with their shots on the big points took the match.

Bucks said afterwards that they were able to put out their strongest team against Devon.

All the matches were played with a friendly competitive spirit. They provided a generous lovely tea to set us up for our long drive home to Devon on the busy Friday evening.

🎾This month’s goes all the way back to 1969, year of the first moon landing! 🚀🌛It shows a picture from a match between the club’s ’Young and Not So Young’, with everyone decked out in immaculate whites. It’s a long time ago, but does anyone recognise any family members?

We're delighted to be running the Arthur Ackerley Coaching Programme for another year. This 6-week course runs on Saturdays from 1pm to 2pm, starting on 6th June and ending on Saturday 11th July. It's aimed at beginners or relative beginners who are new to the club, and is completely FREE. All we ask is that you commit to the 6-week course.

The programme gives participants the opportunity to learn and practise the basic skills for tennis, and is run by Bob Clark, our highly experienced LTA-qualified coach who has taught at a high level all around the world. We can even lend you a racquet if you don’t have one.

The course is scheduled to allow attendees to stay on and practise their skills at our regular Saturday 'Rusty Racquets' group at 2pm if they want to.

🌞🎾 Come and join us at our free Open Day in beautiful East Devon on Saturday 30 May, between 10am and 1pm. Whatever your age or ability, there's something for you.

We'll be running sessions throughout the morning for all ages, from younger and older juniors through to adults, with our highly experienced, LTA-qualified coaching team.

We can loan you a racquet if you don't have one so everyone can get involved. You'll also have the opportunity to try out a selection of racquets from Babolat and Technifibre.

🎾Mixed D have had a challenging start to their summer season in a highly competitive division 3, but they got their show on the road with a superb 8-2 home win over close neighbours Sidford A earlier this week💪

Well done to captain Teresa Hancock, Susan Green, Geoff Westall and Simon Prior on an excellent result. Next up are some even closer neighbours - Seaton Mixed C - on Sunday! 🍻🎾

🎾Mixed B kicked off their summer season on Tuesday evening with a keenly-fought 4-4 draw with Exwick B. 💪

Well done to captain Barry Follett, Julie Hopkinson, Jo Little and newcomer Matt Rayner, who’s joined the club after his move to East Devon. Our men’s and mixed teams have found Matt a formidable opponent on Kingsteignton Tennis Club teams in recent seasons, so it’s great to have him on our side! 🤝🎾
