Today we’re introducing our lovely Ella, one of our PT’s and class trainers! Here a little bit more about her 👇🏻

Hi, my names Ella! I have been training at AK Fitness for 3 years and working here for just over 2 years. I am a qualified Les Mills Body Pump instructor as well as a Hiit circuit and Hiitnride instructor. As well as this, I
specialise in all aspects of weight training including muscle building, increasing strength, weight loss and general fitness. I strive to create a supportive and motivating environment where my clients feel comfortable to express their goals and push themselves! I’m a very active person so when I’m not in the gym you’ll most likely find me out on a hike or a camping trip 🥾

3 TIPS WE’D GIVE BEGINNERS AT THE GYM:

1️⃣ Master the Basics First

Don’t chase heavy weights or fancy machines straight away - focus on your form first.

The correct form builds muscle more effectively, prevents injury and builds the most strength and confidence early on.

You can speak to any of our staff at any time for advice on correcting your form!

2️⃣ Focus on Consistency, Not Intensity

Progress comes from weeks of consistency, not one ‘perfect’ workout. Instead, try this:

Show up regularly.

Get plenty of sleep to support muscle growth.

Don’t overdo it - 3-4 workouts a week is plenty.

3️⃣ Don’t Ignore Your Nutrition

Most people focus on training, but forget nutrition is where results actually happen. Food is what helps your muscles grow, your body recover, and your performance improve.

It doesn’t have to be complicated:

Eat enough protein to help repair and build muscle - try aim for a source in every meal.

Don’t fear carbs, they are fuel!

Calories: too little = no progress. You can speak to our staff for advice on figuring out how many calories will support your goals.

This week we are introducing Nathan, who many of you will recognise as your class trainer or PT! Here’s a little more about him 👇🏻

Hi, my name is Nathan. I have worked at AK Fitness as a gym instructor and personal trainer for nearly 6 years and have personally trained for 8 years! I support members achieve their goals, gain muscle, lose fat, improve their general fitness - whatever it is, I’m here to help. I teach a variety of different classes such as HIITStep, boxersize, kettlebells and more!

The hardest part of a Monday workout is the front door. Once you’re in, the rest is easy. See our Monday survival guide below 👇🏻

Front-load your favourite lift.
Don’t start Monday with a movement you dread. Start with a lift or exercise you actually enjoy to get the dopamine flowing early. Success in the first 15 mins fuels the rest of the hour 👌🏼

Commit to a friend or a class.
Accountability is the ultimate ‘blue’ killer. If you know a coach or friend is waiting for you at a specific time, you’re far less likely to let a ‘Monday Mood’ keep you on the couch.

The Five-Minute rule.
If you’re feeling sluggish, tell yourself you’ll just go for 5 minutes. Once you’ve broken the seal and finished your warmup, the adrenaline usually takes over and you’ll finish the full session.

Prep is key.
Preparing your gym bag and post workout meal makes the process of getting to the gym as seamless as possible, eliminating any last minute excuses.

Remove distractions.
Avoid going home first. Go directly from work to the gym to prevent losing motivation and know that once you reach your sofa, you don’t have to get back off it again 🎉

Meet The Team!

Today we’re introducing Sharon 👋🏻 If you’re a member at AK, you’ll definitely recognise her friendly face. Sharon has been with us since the very beginning and is often found supporting our members on the gym floor! Here’s a little more about her 👇🏻

I had the opportunity to join AK Fitness in 2015 after being made redundant from my previous role as a retail manager. I retrained and qualified as a gym instructor / personal trainer and have enjoyed every moment since. I have been with AK from the beginning and absolutely love the interaction with the members and seeing everyone who joins thrive and achieve their goals.

It was all a bit daunting in the beginning, especially taking courses alongside people 40 years younger than me, but I did it and feel proud that I took the challenge and have no regrets doing what I love to do!

Be sure to say hello to Sharon next time you’re in!
