Match Report:
Epworth score four in the second Innings to take all three!
Tuesday night’s fixture saw the home side dominate after going a goal behind. Epworth started brightly and created a handful of good chances, but the travelling side’s goalkeeper pulled off some excellent saves, pushing efforts away from the bottom corners.
Late in the first half, a defensive mix-up from the home team allowed Innings FC an opportunity, and a long-range strike into the top corner meant Epworth went into the break a goal down.
Epworth turned the screw in the second half, with the intensity of their play and pressing proving too much for the visitors to handle. The equaliser soon arrived, with Pritchard firing home to get Epworth back into the game.
The second goal came from a well-struck free kick by Bartlett, forcing a parried save which Sowerby reacted quickest to, putting the home side in front. The third arrived from a superbly delivered corner, met by Keeble who powered a header home to make it three. The game was then put beyond doubt from another excellent corner delivery, this time met by Barlow to make it 4–1.
A well-earned victory for Epworth this week, playing some of their best football for a while and matching the high standards they set earlier in the year.
Man of the Match this week went to Rick Keeble for a solid display at centre-half and for chipping in with his first goal since the release of colour television.
