Hi All, This is not an announcement we wanted to make, and it is made with something of a heavy heart and after a great deal of consideration, but sadly we have to tell you that there won’t be a Dirt Diggers this year. It’s not been an easy decision, but the simple truth is, we simply aren’t getting the numbers of people to make it worthwhile. Last year Richard and myself worked really hard behind the scenes to get the numbers up from 2022, we really did everything possible to promote and promote. And in the end, we ended up with two people less. It isn’t just the money, we could cut back a bit and still probably make it pay its way, but it’s the motivation. Dirt Diggers was never about money anyway, we did it to get new people coming into the sport and to see people enjoying themselves. But we aren’t attracting new people, and there isn’t enough enjoyment, for us anyway. Don’t get us wrong, we do care very much about the people who have supported us over the years, we have such a lovely core group, and we love to see you all happy, that’s why this has been a difficult decision. But we really wanted to see the pits fuller and more lively, and the classes with more than just two or three riders, and another twenty or thirty people on the dance floor in the evening. That’s what we do it for, that’s our sense of satisfaction, to look around and feel it was fully worthwhile. And without that, we simply don’t have the energy and motivation to do everything that needs to be done.

So that’s it really, hopefully you can understand our situation. On the plus side, it’s been six really good years, we’ve really enjoyed creating an event that’s delivered so much love and appreciation, and hopefully also created some happy memories for you all. And of course there’s still the regular monthly Scunthorpe meetings to race at (if we ever get any half decent weather....).

Other than that, it just remains for me and Richard to thank all of you for your support, your fun and laughter, and your ever-smiling faces. It’s been wonderful, Thank You. ;-)

SO TODAY I HAVE MOSTLY BEEN...
..single-handedly (quite literally, which is a bit of a bu**er...) sorting and bagging the fabulous Dirt Diggers #6 - Diggity Dig T-shirts. And they do look r**t grand an' all.... They'll go in the van when we load up, and then if you see The Delightful Miss P when you get there, she'll sort you out on the day. ;-) ###

MORE GROOVIENESS

Me and P spent today putting all the trophies together (all 45 of them, not a five minute job...), but they're looking well groovy, with a fabby black glitter finish we got done on special order. But you have to be in it to win it, so if you haven't entered yet, we'd suggest now mught be a good time.... ;-)

Also.... After the success of last year, we're expanding the competitors Fancy Dress into two categories, Adult and Junior. Just one trophy for each though, so get your thinking caps on and see which one of you can impress our Fancy Dress judge - The Delightful Miss P - who'll be awarding points for style, humour, originality and effort... or just whatever takes her fancy on the day. So dress to impress... ;-)

Less than two weeks to go now too - see you there!!! ###

Crikey, things are moving apace now (just as well really, not long to go...) and we've had confirmation from our ever-helpful printer that the last date for T-shirt orders is a week today. That's Friday the 2nd of June.

Aye, does it get any better than a set of Dirt Diggers stickers? (The answer is 'no it doesn't' obvs...)

Just taken delivery of this year's batch, Dirt Diggers #6 - Diggity Dig, and snazzy doesn't even begin to describe them. Do you want a set? Of course you do. And they're free, all you need to do is come and race with us, and collect your free sticker sheet at signing on. Are we good to you or what? And.... There's still time to enter on the Early Bird Discount, which saves you a fiver off the normal entry fee and runs up until Sunday the 30th April. Oh, and while you're there, you can pre-order a DD #6 T-shirt into the bargain - snazzy up your chest as well as snazzy up your bike! Bazzin....

IT'S ALL HAPPENING....!

Just cos it's a bit quiet on the outside doesn't mean we're not beavering away (can you say that these days...?) behind the curtains, er, I mean the scenes....

Hot off the presses are this year's wristbands, in the funkiest orange you can possibly imagine. And speaking of orange*, also in the same colour - ah, hang on - also in, er, yellow* - are a bunch of flyers I'll be taking to the next DTRA meeting to promote our very good selves and your very good selves to the wider racing community.

If you could make good use of a few yourself, drop me a message with your address and I'll stick a handful in the post to you.

*Actual DD #6 colours are light blue and orange. Gulf Oil colours in fact. Chosen because this is DD #6, and 1966 was the year the Ford GT40 anhilated the all-conquering Ferrari's at the Le mans 24 Hours. And you thought we just threw these posters together.... (I know the Gulf sponsorship didn't come to Ford til later, but the blue/orange GT40 is by far the most iconic one, so ya boo sucks!)

* Ah, over the years of tons of Dirt Diggers printing, I've got friendly with the young woman in the stationer's shop. I was going for orange, but she had this yellow that she needed to get rid of, so offered me a demon deal on the printing. And being a sad cheapskate (and a sucker to womanly wiles...), I made an executive decision to save money. It is what it is...)
