🦈 2024 - YEAR OF THE STEEL SHARK 🦈
2024 was a strange year, starting the year with no players, no coaches, no sponsors, no kit, no fixtures and no real idea of what we were doing
Fast forward to May and we managed to get some players together, found a pitch and convinced an opposition to come across to Scunthorpe for a game - but still had no kit
A week later we had our own kit, and are extremely grateful to all of our amazing sponsors for their support. Without them there is no way we could have manoeuvred through the season!
We also managed to show club captain, Alfie Oldridge ( #22), how to put his fin up. Somehow got Ben Youngs and Dan Cole to commit to play for the Steel Sharks in the 2025 season. Scrum-half, Henry Dawson ( #7), loved kicking goals, winning away, and wearing full stash at every given opportunity. The Steel Sharks managed to take over Leeds, and showed lovely young ladies the ways of the Steel Sharks. Super League Man of Steel, Mikey Lewis, showed his support to the Steel Sharks after the Hull KR win away at Headingly in July. Flyer, Robbie Johnston ( #5), became the first Steel Sharks player to graduate and even through a fin up to celebrate. Amazingly Cameron Christer ( #3) and Lewis Meyer ( #13) got through the season managing to remain friends with Ethan Taylor ( #6) despite him only organising one curry club throughout the year
2024 was also the year that we brought rugby league back to Scunthorpe, with players new to the game, players coming back to the game and players who didn’t realise they were playing the game. We used a total of 37 players during our first season, who have all ether their name in the first chapter of our history
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who pulled on a shirt, sponsored the team, came out to support, bought some kit or even just sent a message of well wishes
