Weekend Preview

Sadly both our midweek games were called off due to the rain today so we go ahead and look at the weekend with 3 big games.

For the 1st XI its a trip to the east coast to play Holton Le Clay. After Saturdays win against 3rd place Broughton, Liam McAnaneys side will be looking to extend their lead at the top, still with a game in hand, against a side we did the double over last year. Holton Le Clay currently sit 6th in the league and there are changes to last weeks side with Jack Smith and Graham Clark returning to the side to replace Ben Robertson and David Holland. Everyone will be wishing them the best of luck on their travels.

For the 2nd XI, after 2 very good performances that saw them pick up 16 points from top 2 sides in the league its another home game against strong opposition. Graeme Fletchers side host Cleethorpes Cricket & Squash Club and hope to pick up their 2nd win of the season and lift them out of the relegation places. 2 changes to last weeks side with David Hobson and Billy Scott returning to replace Charles Mason and Brandon McClurey. The bar and ground will be open from 1230 to support the side.

And on Sunday we start our Mick Walker Cup campagin, after dissapointingly missing out on our 3 cup final in a row to a coin toss, Albert starts this seasons cup campaign with an away trip to Division 2 side Broughton Cricket Club - Lincs and we wish them all the best and hope to see them in the hat for the Semi FInals.

Matchball sponsor for this week is our long time supporters Need That Cruise and we thank them for their support.

Weekend review

The 1st XI extended their gap at the top of the league, the 2nd XI pick up 8 points in a good performance against a top Div 2 side and the 3rd XI continued their good showing in the North Lindsey League.

The 1st XI got revenge for their opening day defeat to Broughton Cricket Club - Lincs by picking up the 20 points and extending their lead at the top of the league. After losing the toss the priorymen were soon 16 for 3 after some very sharp bowling from Jack Johnstone and a mix up run out but Ollie Ounsley and Matthew Teal steadied the ship very well until drinks. Mattew got out for 25 not long after but Ollie stepped on the gass and a wonderful 50 turned into a magnificent century hitting 5 6s and 15 4s to finish on 136 not out and sit alone at the top of the club century hitters. The final score for the 1st XI was 211 for 7 and looked a very good total in the conditions.

Both bowling openers liam and Brett picked up early wickets to leave Broughton 7 for 2 before a great couple of overs by Liam and Albert picking up 3 wickets in 2 overs, including 2 from 2 by liam and Broughton were struggling at 55 for 5. Steve Johnson batter very well despite being injured to get 61, backed up very well from the tail and Broughton were getting closer and closer to the target. Some very good death bowling from Ollie and Deol got us over the line and Broughton finished 29 runs short. Well done to Broughton for the game and thanks to the Thatch at Broughton for welcoming Outcasts back and putting food on.

The 1st XI now sit 6 points clear at the top of Div 1 with a game in hand over the other top sides.

For the 2nd XI it was a very good performance against a side that narrowly missed out on promotion last season and 8 more points picked up in their relegation fight. Bowling first the 2nd XI stuck to their guns against some good batting, with Brad King and Jase Whitley picking up 2 wickets and Graeme Fletcher, Benj Whiteley and Brandon Mclurey picking up a wicket a piece to keep Grimsby to 228 for 8.

The 2nd XI batted well and was well withing the run rate throughout the innings but lost wickets at the wrong time. Martin Davey went for 28, Brad King 33 and Adam Wroot hit a very well deserved 61 to get the 2nds within 50 runs of the target. The tail didnt get over the line though and we fell 44 runs short.

For the 3rd XI it was one of our youngest sides out in the North Lindsey league and they batted, bowled and fielded very well to only lose by 55 runs, but picked up full batting points for the second week in a row. Tristan, Oliver, Brett Smith and Martin Davey picked up wickets but a superb century from Issac O'Neill got Appleby Frodingham to 228.

Davey picked up his 6th 50 of season, Ashton Wroot batted very well for 36 and Henry Holland score 15 but we fell 55 runs short in the chase.

There's 3 changes to last weeks side with Matthew Teal and Deol returning to the side and David Holland coming in to replace Charles Mason, Hugh Maw and Jack Smith. Liam McAnaneys side currently sit top of Division 1 and a win against 3rd place will see a clear gap in the promotion places going into the middle of the season.

For Graeme Fletchers 2nd XI side its a home tie against Grimsby Town 3rd XI, after 2 defeats to top of the table the team will be looking to pick up points and pull away from the relegation places against 4th place Grimsby. Weekend Review

It was a mixed weekend for the 3 sides, with the 1st XI going top of the Division 1 North, the 2nd XI falling agonisingly short against top of the table and the 3rd XI falling short on Sunday.

For the 1st XI it was the local derby against Haxey and after the south Isle side won the toss and elected to field they bowled very well in the first spell. Both openers went for low scores before Albert Van Der Poel and Tom Smith looked to steady the ship and build an innings. A 114 run stand for the 3rd wicket saw both Albert and Tom pick up half centuries before Albert went for 54 and Tom went for 67. Jack Smith came in at 5 and worked with the middle order and tail well to pick up 27 not out but a few wickets at the wrong time saw us fall short of 200 and end on 196 for 8.

Skipper Liam struck in the first over of the game to leave Haxey 0 for 1 before Haxey took the attack to the Outcasts bowlers. At 48 for 1 it looked game on but a great spell of bowling from Albert and Jack saw Haxey slip to 68 for 4 and then 116 for 6. Albert ended with 4 wickets, Brett Smith and Ollie Ounsley 2 and Jack and Liam 1 as we won the match by 54 runs and go to the top of the league with a game in hand.

For the 2nd XI After winning the toss and electing to bat first again all hopes were on a better batting performance after a heavy defeat two weeks ago. Luckily the team batted very well and managed to post a respectable 173-6 from 45 overs. Martin Davey leading the way once again with 53, his third fifty of the season for the second team and a quick fire 48 from 40 balls from Brad King.

After a fast start from the App Frod openers, three wickets from Brad King and one from Benjamin Whiteley had the game in the balance at 92-4. An excellent direct hit run out from Martin Davey broke a 51 run partnership and a wicket from Ashton Wroot to remove the dangerous Abir Chowdhury for 73 made it 143-6. At this point the skipper brought himself back on and took three quick wickets leaving the score on 164-9 . Ten runs to win or one wicket was the equation but the home team managed to score the runs in a last wicket stand in what was a very exciting finish. A lot of credit has to go to the team for the fight shown in a much better performance from the previous defeat. Next week the team are at home to Grimsby 2nds in what will be another tough test.

and Finally the 3rd XI came up against a good Messingham side and kept them to 190 for 9 in a battling display in the heat. Jase Whitely picked up 3 wickets, Sam Varley 2 and 1 for Oliver and Theo. The score was too much but Martin Davey picked up his 5th half century of the season batting through for 84 not out and Oliver batted wonderfully for 34 not out as we fell 28 runs short.

Midweek Review

What a game last night between our two midweek sides that saw over 200 runs and some exelant display of batting, bowling and fielding.

The Midweek XI batted first and lost Ben Robertson for just 3 before Dec Muldowney and Jack Smith put on a wonderful 101 run partnership in just 12 overs, Jack was eventially bowled for 33 and Dec was going for just the 4th midweek century at Outcasts before being caught superbly on the boundary by Jacob Dunstan, who made some great stops out there. The midweek XI finished on 132 for 5 off their 16 overs but credit to some of the young bowlers in the development side.

The Dev was well on with the run chase picking up 57 in the first 6 overs, with Adam Wroot smacking the bowlers all over the park. He fell for 48 and Theo Millington fell for 10 and the Development fell away finishing 50 runs short. Jack Smith bowled a great spell of 3 for 3 from 3 overs and Graeme Fletcher picked up a few wickets at the end but it was great to see Will and Archie, two of our academy players finish the innings out in the middle for the Devs.

So the Midweek XI go to the final a week on Thursday to play Messingham at Hirst Priory.

Last week saw a win for the Midweek XI against broughton, reducing them to 104 off their 16 overs before Ben Robertson smashed a wonderful 50 to chase the score down in just 12 overs. For the Development XI it was a defeat at Normanby Park by 4 wickets but again credit must go to the heart and spirity of the young academy lads coming up against senior sides.

Next week sees the Midweek XI travel to hirst priory to play Scunthorpe Town whereas the Development are at home to Appleby Frodingham.

The Development XI has 4 changes with Rick Johnson coming back in to lead the side, with Ashton Wroot, Arron Curry and Archie also coming into the team.

Tonight is a celebration of the cricket club and the hard work the two midweek sides have done over the years to get to this point.

The bar and ground will be open for 6pm and we hope to see as many people down supporting the 2 teams and celebrating which Outcasts side will be in the final in 2 weeks time at Hirst Priory.
