After a week off for rain, softball returned Monday night. App Frod at home.

Bowling first we did well. Wickets spread amongst the group. Taking 8 wickets in the 80 balls.πŸ‘

With a target to chase, the first pair flew out the blocks and put a big dent in the total, and the remaining pairs ticked along to give us the win.

Two new players to wear the badge this week who were both fantastic on debut. 🏏

A good team performance. πŸ™Œ

Village Cup

Alkborough travelled to the outskirts of York to play Woodhouse Grange in the Village Cup. Woodhouse had an impressive looking ground with two full size playing fields dedicated to cricket.

Alkborough lost the toss and were fielding first on a good looking track and fast outfield but Alkborough bowled and fielded with great credit restricting Woodhouse to 214 for 9 off their 40 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Dec Dunning with 4-39.

Alkborough’s reply never really got going with wickets falling at regular intervals with only Andy Williamson 28 and Craig Ross 19 providing much resistance. Alkborough were all out for 79.

Despite this Alkborough should be proud of their achievement in reaching the regional final of the Village Cup having beaten Brandsburton, Outcasts and Milford in previous rounds.

Alkborough u13s travelled across to Barton on Monday where we were put into bat first.

Max and Lexi opened the batting steadily moving the total to 216 for the loss of 1 wicket. Next in was Isaac and Edward who recovered well from losing two quick wickets reducing the score back to 200. Eventually got us back to 218 at the halfway stage of the innings.
The two Oscar’s then came to the crease. They were able to get us to an innings high of 225 before 3 quick wickets left the score at 208 with 1 pair left.
Bobby and Charlie faced some tight bowling at the end losing 1 more wicket meaning we were left to defend 212. 🏏

Barton needing 213 to win got off to a steady start losing no wickets and moving the score to 216. It was obvious at this stage we needed a few wickets to give us a chance of victory.
Our next bowling pair of Oscar k and Lexi did just that! They took 6 wickets between them in the next 3 overs including 4 in 1 over from Lexi! This meant after 8 overs barton were reduced to 179.
Our next bowlers Charlie and Edward came on to bowl who kept runs to a minimum with Edward taking his first wicket for the club.
With 6 overs left Barton needed 34 runs.
Bobby and max came onto bowl they bowled well restricting runs and taking a wicket at vital times to stem any momentum eventually restricting them to 186 to secure the win.

A game played in great spirits by both teams, well done πŸ’ͺ🏏🏏

Lexi 4
Oscar K 2

We're a bit late to the party, we've been a bit slow with posting this one!

With all the recent (not so recent now) headlines about football's latest "Spygate" scandal, we thought we'd ask the team...

πŸ‘€ If you had to send someone to spy on the opposition, who would it be?

Before anyone gets any ideas, we'd like to make it absolutely clear that:
❌ No opposition teams were monitored
❌ No disguises were used
❌ No bushes were hidden in
❌ No binoculars were purchased
❌ No junior players were deployed as secret agents

Let us know who you'd send on a top-secret cricket mission! 🏏🀣

With the rain pouring, the 1st team travelled to Lindum.
With his tossing streak coming to an end, we were put into bat in gloomy conditions. ☁️

Losing Sam (PF plant) early, Jack (ADJ Surfacing & Consultancy Ltd) and Lee (Simpson Kelly Associates) steadied the ship, Lee stirring things up the middle before departing for steady double figures.
Cal joined Jack and the runs flowed, Cal with some l***y blows as we rocketed past 100 before kicking one off middle for 30. Jack and Olly (HTK Functional Fitness) kept runs flowing, Jack eventually departing for 71 before Olly swung himself off his feet and missed a straight one for 26. Willo (The Sheffield Arms ) with 22 not out saw us set 208.

A good start from Olly and Jacob (Floral Image UK - Humber) going at a run an over for the first 7, before Olly got hit to the fence - immediately followed by the breakthrough. Jacob shortly followed with his first before the pair bowled through their 10 each straight, grafting away while watching many chances get thrown on the floor 🫣.

Rallying the troops, on came Willo with a change of pace who picked up 2 with some tidy stuff, Matty with 1 before Dec (Metres To Miles) was introduced, who concluded to wrap the game up, taking 5 in 5 overs. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

A good 20 points for the lads, followed by the obligatory trip to Dambusters 🍺

MOTM Jack for his 70 (not his slip catching)

DOTD Sam for being butter fingers for the day
