Outing myself… I couldn’t do the Snake 🐍😂
For the longest time, this was one of those Reformer moves that just wasn’t happening for me. Instead of forcing it, I focused on building the strength, control and confidence needed to get there.
Here’s a little look at the progressions that helped me along the way 🤎
P.S. I only perform a few reps of each exercise before moving on to the next progression, and the videos are sped up so you can see the full journey without watching the whole workout! ⏩
Step 1: Build the foundations 💪🏼
Before even attempting the Snake, I needed to work on the basics.
Plank control, core connection and learning how to move my body from a strong position into a pike.
It’s not about rushing to the “fancy” move… it’s about building the strength to do it safely and with control.
Step 2: Challenge the strength 🔥
Next progression… more load through the arms and shoulders.
This is where you really start to feel how much upper body strength, stability and control the Snake requires.
(And yes… my arms were shaking 😂)
Step 3: Understand the movement 🐍
Before bringing it back onto the Reformer, I practised the movement pattern itself.
Learning the rotation, the weight shift and how each part of the body works together.
Sometimes the biggest breakthrough comes from slowing things down.
Step 4: Finally putting it together ✨
Was it perfect? No 😂
But a few months ago, I couldn’t even get close.
This is why I love Pilates — progress isn’t always about bigger weights or harder workouts. Sometimes it’s finally nailing the movement you once thought was impossible.
Still learning… still practising… but definitely stronger than I was before 🤎
