An update after my post yesterday morning. Turns out we shall go to the ball…

Morning all,

Some ‘news’ which is not ideal but an update nonetheless…

Unfortunately in a test over the weekend the bike I was due to ride at the Gold cup has developed another issue and with the Supertwin still not entirely playing ball, Paul and the Trickbits racing team have decided to sit this last one out, have a bit of a reset and go from there. I completely understand the decision as there’s been plenty of stresses this season and sometimes you need to just need to take a step back, take a minute and assess your options.

However, this has left me with a slight predicament, I have an entry for the gold cup in the Supersport and Supertwin classes but at present have no machinery so am just putting the feelers out to see if there was anybody/teams with a bike available that they would be interested in giving a run out…? Unlikely I know at this stage but worth an ask to see what, if anything would be a possibility.

So if you or anybody you know may have a (next gen) Supersport bike and/or Supertwin/sportbike and would like to see it out at Oliver’s Mount against the ‘big boys’ (there’s a pretty stacked entry up to now) then give me a shout and we can go from there…

*** Aberdare park road races 2026 ***

A successful weekend was had. An event Paul from Trickbits holds dear, we went with a view of trying to win as much as possible but the main aim being the Welsh Open title for a third time…

Things started off well with pole position in all three classes - Supertwin, Supersport 600 and Welsh open. A big crash Saturday morning meant a big delay, I’d just like to wish the injured rider the best and hoping he makes a good, full recovery in time. This meant there were only three heat races on Saturday, all of which I managed to win, not necessarily by much but a win is a win.

This also meant a busy Sunday, with @ races scheduled 😳. 9 o’clock came round and I got to work…

The morning consisted of the the races carried over from Saturday, the final from each class for me. I managed to win all three, not by much again but did what I needed to.

Then came the afternoon, 6 races and all more laps too 😬. The heat races I planned to see how things went, they’re effectively a qualifier for grid position in the finals but when the helmet went on race mode automatically kicked in. Supersport 600 I won, leading the whole race, Supertwin however, I was second for most of the race before an opportunistic move around the outside on the final lap when we caught a back marker meant I took the win.

Then came the finals. Unfortunately the Supertwin decided it wasn’t playing ball from the start and a big misfire meant a first lap retirement. Supersport 600 up next and I lead from start to finish to take the win, only by 0.123 of a second but got the job done. Then came the Welsh open final (second leg). I was beaten to turn one and then Joey Lambden made an opportunistic move to push me to 3rd. This seemed to light a fire inside me, I managed to pick the two of them off and then put the hammer down to see what I could do, taking the win by 1.1 seconds, the biggest win margin of the weekend for me. This also made me Welsh Open champion for 2026 and a third time.

There was also the invitational to finish the weekend where grid positions are random. Got a good start and was second out of turn 1, tried to make a pass a couple of times but Joey was riding more defensively and making it difficult. I did kind of get in front twice but ran wide both times and had to settle for second.

In total, 12 races started, 10 wins, one 2nd and one DNF, I’ll take that 👌

Almost forgot!

Oliver’s Mount - Scarborough - Barry Sheene festival .

A couple of weeks ago we made the long trip to Scarborough for the second meeting of the year at Oliver’s Mount. Unfortunately the Supertwin was still playing up, solved one issue but another started so that was parked up after one lap of race 1.

We took the Trickbits Racing moto2 as the 675 Daytona had an engine issue when testing which there wasn’t time to get around. Had a pretty good weekend once we got a few small issues sorted. Qualified 5th which was there or thereabouts.

Race 1 - a good start and brave round the outside manoeuvre at turn 1 saw me lead the race for the first 3 and 3/4 laps. I ran wide at the final hairpin which allowed Mr Weeden through but I held on to 2nd until the flag.

Race 2 - another good start saw me second out of turn one. I couldn’t get close enough to Jonny Stewart out front to attempt a move and then Tom Weeden snuck by again. I seemed to lose my rhythm a bit and then started fighting the bike and ended up getting a bit of arm pump, eventually dropping back to 5th.

Race 3 - a good start and I led the pack agaainnout of turn 1. I led for two laps before Tom passed me yet again at the start of lap 3. I held second until the last corner on the penultimate lap where I went in to hot and ran wide, meaning my run onto the start finish was very slow and allowed Jonny Stewart past again. I didn’t have a chance to have a go back on the final lap and came home third.

My results were good enough for 3rd overall for the weekend. Had I not made the mistake at the end of the final race, I would have got 2nd overall but there we go. Tom Weeden was in a league of his own this weekend so fair play to him!

Next up is Oliver’s Mount again on 18th/19th July for the c**k ‘o the north meeting…

Just returned from Olivers Mount for the Bob Smith spring cup. A weekend that didn’t go at all to plan but that’s racing sometimes.

To be honest, the results or lack of are somewhat meaningless anyway as tragically a crash in our first Supersport race on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of Aran Sadler, a fellow competitor and reigning ‘king of the mount’. A harsh and sobering reminder of the darker side of motorsport. My thoughts and condolences go to Aran’s partner, family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

I’d also like to say a big thank you to the whole Oliver’s mount team and all medics and marshalls at the event, for their continued efforts on what was a tough weekend for all involved.

Been a bit quiet on here, sorry about that. Guess it’s time for an update…

My bike is now gone and so I don’t own a race bike right now 😔 and with that comes semi retirement.

However a big thanks goes to Trickbits Racing for giving me another opportunity to ride their bikes. At the moment we plan to contest all 4 Olivers Mount meetings and Aberdare Park. There is the option of another couple of meetings potentially but more funds would be required for that to happen which is a stumbling block when announcing that I’m ‘retiring’ 😂. However if anyone would like to be involved in a condensed season and help cover the costs involved to make things a little easier and more competitive then please don’t hesitate to give me a shout and we’ll see if we can work something out!

Pretty cool to be awarded newcomer of the year at Olivers Mount this year. Thank you to the team there who run a brilliant event and thank you also to Paul and the Trickbits Racing team for giving me the tools have have a run round there. Maybe we’ll be back next year to try and get some more trophies 👀

*** 2025 season round up ***

Firstly I’ll apologise for my rambling on to come, I can’t stop myself and my analytical brain can’t be stopped 😂😂😂

So, as the dust settles and I come to accept my three second place finishes at Donington we’re not enough to secure the championship, I thought I’d do a bit of a summary of what went down in 2025…

No Limits Racing NLR 2025 super series 1000 championship, the main title I was aiming to claim overall was a positive season. On the pace everywhere, challenging some British championship riders who entered as wildcards at selected meetings and beating my personal best lap times at 5 of 7 circuits we visited, some by quite a margin, I firmly believe I have been/am riding as well as I ever have. Also showing that the Yamaha, which is not the preferred bike of choice in the 1000 class currently, can still be competitive against some of the other models on track. Here are some statistics from the season…

22 races

Snett - 1.51.724 (2.424 faster)
Brands Hatch - 1.28.885 (0.170 faster)
Donington - 1.30.891 (0.263 faster)
Cadwell - 1.29.501 (0.919 faster)
Oulton - 1.38.605 (0.609 faster)

Overall I had more race wins than anybody else as well as more podium finishes overall. The two technical DNF’s (a broken chain and then a DNS with fried ECU) probably cost me a real shot at the title and also put more pressure on towards the end of the season as I had to try and claw points back wherever I could. But, there’s plenty of ifs, buts and maybes in racing and that’s the way it goes sometimes.

It’s disappointing to have to accept 2nd (known tongue in cheek, as the first loser by us for those that were worrying I was calling myself a loser in my previous post) but Max Lofthouse rode fast and consistently all season and is a deserving winner (even if it is hard to admit 😂). I do however take some comfort in the fact that I could take the challenge to him and others at pretty much all meetings and was able to run a pace that would be competitive for points scoring positions at most British championship events and that I couldn’t really have done any more.

Then we have the roads meetings with Trickbits Racing…

Olivers Mount for the first time at the c**k o’the north meeting then followed up with the Gold cup. Very mixed weather across both meetings but happy enough to secure some podium finishes in both Supersport and supertwin classes and really enjoyed racing there. Ended up with the following overall positions despite only competing in two of the three meetings of the year…

King of the Mount (feature races) - 7th
Supersport class - 9th
Supertwin class - 3rd

And then we have Aberdare Park Road Races which we won’t talk about too much as Paul still gets a little emotional about it but I won all Saturday races and was on for some overall wins until some brake issues in Sundays finals caused me some problems and dropped me out of contention.

Back home, unpacked into the small abyss that it all happens from. Sadly my best efforts weren’t enough this time and another 2nd in the final race meant 2nd in the championship this year. Not how I wanted to end things or had hoped it would be but that’s racing. Congratulations to Max who has ridden consistently fast all year, a worthy champion.

Full write up for the weekend/season to come but for now, off to work for me. First day of ‘retirement’ as ‘the first loser’ 😭
