etings and events, training rooms and also air & nitrox fills facilities. The club has a hard boat in Scarborough Harbour & a rigid Inflatable boat (RIB) in Bridlington. During dive season we regularly dive of our amazing local coast as well planning dive trips around the UK and abroad.

🌊 SSAC Club Dive – HMT Garmo Wreck 🌊

Today, a group of 10 divers and 2 crew headed out aboard Freedom of the Sea to dive the HMT Garmo wreck, lying in 20 metres of water off the Yorkshire coast. The weather was kind to us, with good sea conditions making for an enjoyable day on the water.

Despite the big tides, we managed to find around 1–2 metres of visibility. While not the clearest conditions, it was certainly navigable, allowing divers to make their way around the wreck and explore features including the bow section, anchor, gun, boiler and engine. Members were also treated to some fantastic marine life sightings, including large crabs, lobsters, and many other amazing sea creatures.

A huge congratulations to Nick on completing his first sea dive and successfully achieving his 20m depth progression – a fantastic achievement and an important milestone in his diving journey. 👏

It was also great to have Robin onboard, helping out and learning more about boat handling and dive boat operations.

A special well done to our newly qualified Ocean Divers who was out today, for completing heir first wreck dive. Exploring a wreck for the first time is always a memorable experience, and it's fantastic to see our newest divers continuing to build their skills and confidence.

A great day of diving, training, and teamwork. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success both above and below the surface!

⚓ Last night we had a fantastic turnout at the club for Bince's Boat Handling Theory session!

It was great to see so many members packed into the clubhouse, listening to Bince share his wealth of knowledge and experience. The evening covered key aspects of boat handling, navigation, and seamanship, with plenty of discussion and questions throughout.

A huge thank you to Bince for delivering such an informative and engaging presentation, and to everyone who came along and supported the event. Nights like these are a great reminder that learning and sharing knowledge are a big part of what makes our club so special.

We look forward to putting some of that theory into practice on the water soon! 🚤⚓

🔵 Nitrox Blending Course Success! 🔵

Scarborough Sub Aqua Club hosted a full-day Nitrox Blending Course, with 9 members successfully training as new Nitrox blenders.

The day covered the theory behind Nitrox, oxygen handling and safety procedures, gas analysis, calculating mixes, and hands-on experience using our blending panel and equipment. Participants gained the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely blend Nitrox for club diving activities.

It's great to see so many members investing in their training and helping support the club's diving operations. Having more qualified blenders not only increases flexibility for our divers but also helps keep our Nitrox facilities running smoothly throughout the season.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and to the instructors and volunteers who gave up their day to make the course possible.

🌊 Ocean Awareness Week 🌊

In celebration of Ocean Awareness Week, our snorkel members headed north of Scarborough by boat to a remote beach to help protect our coastline.

Armed with bags and plenty of enthusiasm, the team collected rubbish that had washed ashore, removing it from the environment before it could break down into harmful microplastics and enter the food chain.

Every piece of litter removed is one less threat to our marine life and a cleaner, healthier ocean for future generations.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and gave up their time to make a positive difference. Small actions really do have a big impact! 💙🌍♻️

🩺 BLS & O₂ Refresher Training 🩺

Last night our instructors ran a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Oxygen Administration refresher session for club members, helping everyone keep their skills current and their knowledge fresh.

As divers, we all hope we never need to use these skills in a real emergency, but regular practice is essential to ensure we can respond quickly and effectively if the situation arises. Keeping these skills refreshed helps build confidence and could make a real difference when every second counts.

A big thank you to our instructors for giving up their time and to everyone who attended.

You never know when you might need these skills – it's always better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

What a fantastic day out on the new boat on Saturday! 🚤☀️

Eight divers headed over to Filey Brigg and everyone had a great time both on and under the water. Although it was a little lumpy on the way out, once we tucked in under the cliffs the sea was nice and calm, making for some really enjoyable diving conditions.

Visibility was around 3 metres and there was plenty of marine life to see, including crabs, lobsters, wrasse, sea urchins, anemones, and even a nudibranch! 🦀🦞🐟

To top off an already brilliant day, we were treated to a pod of dolphins on the way back to port. They came right up alongside the boat and swam with us for a while – a truly magical experience and the perfect end to a great day of diving. 🐬💙

Days like these are what it's all about!
