🏏 MATCH REPORT | Thornton-le-Dale vs Ganton CC 🏏

Ganton travelled to Thornton-le-Dale under overcast skies on a wicket with a bit of green, favouring the bowlers throughout the day.

With Will Bradley away, vice-captain Phil took charge and, after losing the toss, Ganton were asked to bowl first. Matt Atkinson and Ed Bradley caused problems from the off, moving the ball around beautifully and making life difficult for the hosts.

Thornton’s openers never looked fully comfortable and a brilliant piece of fielding from Tom Pickering and Pat helped break the stand. Wickets then fell quickly with tight bowling from the change bowlers leaving the hosts 50-6. Some resistance from the lower order pushed Thornton to 133 all out.

Wickets were shared between Matt, Ed and Henry, with Will Megginson also picking one up. Greg Cousins also bowled superbly without reward.

Jack and Robbie started the chase positively before Robbie fell just shy of a 50 partnership. Jack departed shortly after, bringing Issac and Tom together before Tom fell to the slower bowling.

That brought Pat to the crease alongside Issac, with the pair building an excellent partnership and calmly guiding Ganton home.

A brilliant all-round display with bat, ball and in the field sees Ganton get their season back on track ahead of next week’s home game against Brompton CC 💚💛

☀️ MATCH REPORT – Ganton CC vs Scalby 2nds ☀️

A glorious day at Ganton and, after winning the toss, we had no hesitation in batting first on another belting wicket.

Skipper Will Bradley made the call to unleash Ed Lockwood up top – and it paid off in style. Ed and Jack got things moving nicely, with Ed finding the boundary with ease, racing to 50 from just 55 balls. The pair brought up a 100 opening stand before Jack departed for a well-made 27.

From there, it was fireworks. Rob Bradley joined Ed and the tempo lifted again, with Ed producing a brutal century – his second 50 coming in just 22 balls. A remarkable 92 of his runs came in boundaries… pure hitting. 💥

Pat’s stay was short-lived after nicking off, while Tom played a some classy drives before falling. Will Bradley then picked up where he left off last week with a quick-fire 80, and Rob brought up a composed half-century of his own with some sublime stroke play. Ed Bradley and Phil saw things through late on as we posted a huge 329 from 45 overs.

🍰 A cracking tea from Liz fuelled everyone up nicely for the second innings.

In reply, Scalby struggled to put a dint in the Ganton First Innings total, despite a determined knock from Reuben Lacey, who battled through for 58*. From the off, Matty Atkinson and Greg Cousins set the tone with tight spells and relentless pressure.

Matty picked up 3 wickets, but it was the veteran James Richardson who stole the show. A wicket with his very first ball sparked a chance of a hatrick followed on from last week. After just missing out then, he came roaring back, two in two, then a huge LBW shout… finger up! Hat-trick secured🎩

Richardson finished with outstanding figures of 6-23, as Scalby were bowled out for 105, sealing a dominant 224-run victory for Ganton.

A brilliant all-round performance and another strong statement early in the season. Thank you to all the sponsors for their continued support. Also for sponsoring the match ball.

A superb start to the season and our Division 1 campaign as Ganton CC secured a dominant victory over Great Habton. Winning the toss, we elected to bat first under beaming sunshine on a hard, flat Ganton belter.

Robbie and Jack laid the platform, battling through a testing opening spell before Robbie fell soon after a 50-run partnership.

Jack and Will then kept things moving nicely, with Jack unlucky to chop on and Will departing after a rare loose shot. Both admitting they left a ton out there.

That brought the middle order into the game, with Issac, Pat, Ed Lockwood and Fred all contributing well to close out the innings strongly and take us to 236-4 from 45 overs.

After a brilliant tea from Emma and her amazing helpers. Great Habton had little answer in reply.

An unplayable opening spell from Matty Atkinson ripped through the order, with his outstanding 8-43 backed up with great fielding and tight bowing, the visitors finished all out for 69.

A brilliant all-round performance, 10 points on the board, and a great way to launch the season.

Huge thanks to all our sponsors and supporters for your backing, and another big thank you to Emma and everyone involved with the tea, it was truly fantastic !!

Next up we’re back home to Scalby 2nds, where we’ll look to keep the momentum going and push for another 10 points.

Come on Ganton! 🟩🟨🟩

DOWN YOUR WAY Ganton Cricket Club

Set in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside, Ganton Cricket Club is a club that does things properly. No fuss, no noise—just good, honest cricket, played the right way.

Based in the village of Ganton, just a few miles west of Scarborough along the A64, the setting is classic rural Yorkshire. Open fields stretch in every direction, with the Yorkshire Wolds rising gently to the south and the North York Moors not far beyond. It’s a location that feels properly connected to the landscape—quiet, steady, and steeped in history.

Ganton itself is a small but well-established village with roots going back centuries. Traditionally an agricultural community, farming has long been at its core, and that influence is still clear today. The village has evolved over time but has never lost that close-knit feel—people know each other, and community still matters.

One of the most notable features of the area is Ganton Golf Club, a nationally recognised championship course that has brought visitors from far beyond the county. While golf has put Ganton on the wider map, cricket remains just as important locally. The two sit side by side—different sports, same pride in the village.

The cricket club reflects that environment perfectly. It’s not built on big numbers or big statements—it’s built on consistency, effort, and local backing. Generations of players have come through the club, many with strong ties to the village and surrounding area, and that continuity is a major strength.

Ganton are fully embedded in the Yorkshire Premier League North, like every club in this competition, and they carry themselves with the same values that underpin the league—commitment, competitiveness, and community.

On the field, Ganton are known for being organised and hard to beat. They don’t give anything away. You earn everything against them. Whether it’s grinding out runs or sticking to disciplined lines with the ball, they make you work. That’s their identity.
