Renowned worldwide for it's quality sea fishing heritage, Scarborough on the beautiful Yorkshire coast is the ideal port to charter a boat for an angling trip. Lucky for Scarborough there is many places to fish, most of these places we fish are Natural scars of rock, kelp beads, And generally really rough ground ideal for Cod and Po***ck Fishing. there are many marks we fish some are only a few minutes away from the harbour and others can span up to filey brigg or ravenscar again two very good cod grounds. Also close to Scarborough are many old ship wrecks .These wrecks can produce good Cod, Ling, Po***ck, and Many other fish. unfortunately both these grounds are very tackle hungry so be prepared to lose a couple of leads and rigs. We also fish sand banks and dumping grounds for the whiting and flat fish if customers are happy with doing this. Free Hire of fishing Tackle
On skylark we have Free hire of our rods and reel, all our rods are 6-7ft and fitted with the Modern multiplier reels (not the traditional Scarborough reels and fixed spools but we do have a few on board for those people who prefer to use them). We also provide Basic fishing this includes weights and rigs. We also provide trips for coastal cruises, Scattering Ashes here is Skylark Coastal Cruises page

We wanted to share an honest update with all our amazing customers. Like many other local skippers, our owner and skipper has recently taken on another job to help support his family.

Those of you who know Nick will understand how much this new role means to him — it’s something he’s been working towards and hoping for for a long time, and we (his family) are incredibly proud of him.

Because of this, we'll be running fewer trips for the time being. This actually lines up with our original plan, as we always intended to take a break over the winter, just as we have in previous years.

We’re not closing or selling the business — Skylark is still very much here. Trips will run as and when his main job allows, and we’ll continue posting availability as soon as dates open.

Prior to these changes, we had already decided in October to suspend all trips until April 2026, as we had canceled many trips due to the sea and weather conditions and the slower-than-usual catch rate.

✨ Skylark Tackle will continue to operate as normal, with no changes to opening or service.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. It means the world to us. ⚓💙

Heaviest Fish Caught in August 2025 competition aboard the Skylark.

Well done to every one taking part it was quite close at times but Harry Shaw was the lucky angler this year.

Winning a £60 Skylark Voucher

And for a 2nd time in the completion history was won on a 3 Fishing Hour Trip.

This year we dedicated the completion in a very close friend's name who sadly passed away early this year and had previously won the competition.

In memory of Ben Mennell

Better fish from today 8 hour trip

Well today started off with two returning anglers who both have held the heaviest fish of the month this year battling it out both have never met, fishing next to each other.

Both fished their socks off today in challenging conditions at times and both managed to get good fish.

Steve beat his previous fish with a cracking 9lb Po***ck which is also a specimen fish.

Alan managed to get a respectable 8lb Ling

Unfortunately neither of them beat the current winning fish but gave it a really good go.

Fishing today was patchy at times with flutters of fish throughout the day.

With a few cod and Po***ck showing aswel as loads of big pouting, a few whiting, a single mackerel again.

We did see two bottle nose dolphins at the beginning of the trip heading south.

When pulling the boat onto the Golden Ball Slipway this morning the skipper noticed several young Herring Gulls hounding a poor little Razorbill on the slipway.

So we have gained an extra passenger for today's fishing trip where it can rest in shelter on the wheelhouse roof and hopefully will find more of its kind and fly away with them.

Weather hasn't been kind to us this past week and many trips have been cancelled due to the north easterly winds.

Fishing has been challenging with not many cod and Po***ck showing up but every trip we have found a few better fish.

All trips we have found plenty of pouting, a handful of ballen wrasse and dogfish taking the hooks.

Unfortunately we haven't seen a single mackerel in the last week or so. With the inshore grounds becoming quite coloured bait fishing has been key.

All photos are the better fish from the last 2 days.

Our heaviest fish competition for the month has only a few days left now

A 14lb 6oz cod caught on today's trip is leading so far.

Can it be beaten

Competition is in memory of a good friend (Ben Mennell) who actually won this competition back in 2016.
