PIER WIN THE RYEDALE HOSPITAL CUP 🕷️🏆

A true game of two halves. Wombleton dominated the first, but Pier stepped it up after the break and showed real character. The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with skipper Sam Garnett slotting home a tidy finish into the bottom corner ⚽

Straight to penalties… and Pier held their nerve to win 4-2:

Josh Welburn ✅
John McDogs ✅
Dec Richardson ✅
Martin Cooper ✅

Massive shoutout to Brad Atkinson for saving TWO penalties 👏

A brilliant way to cap off the season — three trophies secured! Time to rest up, then we go again next season.

Pier leave it late to book their place in the final of the Ryedale Hospital Cup with a dramatic last-kick winner

A slow start saw Pier go 2-0 down in the first half after some sloppy errors, but they fought their way back into the game. Benny Davis pulled one back with a great touch and composed finish from a long ball, before Amotherby extended the lead at the other end to make it 3-1.

Pier responded again just before the break, with Neil Thomas rising highest to head home and make it 3-2 at half-time.

Amotherby struck again early in the second half after another defensive mistake to go 4-2 up, but Pier refused to give in. Will Jenks produced a stunning long-range effort to make it 4-3, and the pressure continued to build until Richardson grabbed the equaliser to level it at 4-4.

With just 30 seconds left on the clock, a cross into the box dropped to Jake Watson, who fired a half-volley off the crossbar and in to complete an incredible comeback and seal the win.

Not the best performance, but with the number of games recently, the character and team spirit shown by the lads was outstanding.

Two finals remaining for the lads now hopefully we can do the quadruple again back to back! ⚽️

Pier maintained their unbeaten record in the league with a good 3-1 win at Kirkdale. Despite both teams having players missing pier started well and created a few early chances but their first goal came from a corner from Dec Richardson who put a great ball in to the front post that was volleyed in by Will Jenkinson. Pier had a few more chances through Richardson but failed to convert and Grayston was causing havoc down the right hand side. It was the right hand side where the next goal came from with once again Richardson turning provider this time for Grayston to head home from close range and put pier 2-0 up around the 30 minute mark. Kirkdale pulled a goal back just before half time through some good work of their own to make it 2-1 at the interval with their first shot on target.

The second half started a bit more even but pier having the better chances, F.Thomas, Richardson failing to take them. Pier defended well as a team with T. Richardson, Garnett putting in good shifts in the engine room and the back 3 holding firm throughout. Richardson sublimely finished to make it 3-1 with a scissor kick on the edge of the box and guarantee all 3 points before N.Thomas created a great chance for P.Provins who missed from 2 yards with the goal gaping but somehow toe poked the ball against the keeper with Thomas hoping for the return to finish off a splendidly worked move. Pier’s next game is home to Thornton le dale in the semi final of the cup Tuesday night @ Sherburn 6.15 KO.

Any support would be appreciated, 3 games this week to define our season. Come support the lads. UTP 🕷️
