10/10/2014

Last Saturday was week 2 of the Under 11 league. Here are all the results and reports from the action last weekend.

04/10/2014

3pm Harlow Greens beat Ware by 58 runs

It was Harlow Greens who made a strong start to their 2014/15 indoor campaign, after a very fine performance from all-rounder Ben Yeates. The young man followed up helping his team to a commanding score of 147-3 with a very fluent 36 with some very tidy work behind the stumps and even a managed to pick up a 2-for from a little 2 over spell as well. Despite the big score to chase, Ware were not blown away and showed against some good bowling that they will hold their own in this league with Owen Muir retiring with 20 to help his team to 89-4 in 12 overs.

4pm Matching Green beat Dunmow by 2 wickets

It was a change in fortunes for both these clubs during week 2 of the indoor league. Dunmow, who won a thriller against Stortford by just 1 run the week before once again posted a ton plus score as they reached 104 from their allotted overs. Matching Green were hampered by the loss of regular wickets last week but lightning didn't strike twice here as they knocked off the runs comfortably in the end to win by 2 wickets with 20 balls to spare to register their first win of the season.

5pm Stansted Hall and Elsenham beat Harlow Whites by 2 wickets

SH & E made it 2 wins out of 2 with victory against Harlow Whites. Harlow posted 84 from there 12 overs thanks to some powerful hitting from Paddy Matthews (25 off 12 balls). Opening bowler Hasan Ali threatened to blow SH & E away early on with a fast opening spell that saw him pick up 2 wickets, but Stansted Hall saw him off and went on to pick up the win by 4 wickets.

Weekend Review!

Saturday saw the return of the HECCSport Indoor League and the Under 11s made sure it went off with a bang with some sensational drama and excellent cricket throughout the afternoon and if the rest of the season provides more of the same then it will be very exciting.

Harlow Whites vs Matching Green

Despite the best efforts of Josh Hale (21), Matching Green got off to a losing start against a Harlow Whites. The boys from the Green posted 101 with just 31 of those coming off the bat but this was chased down comfortably in the end with last years Batter and Bowler of the year, Nathan Khelawon, posted a very quick and classy 18 retired to send Harlow on their way to the first victory of the new season by 5 wickets.

HECCSport Hurricanes vs Stansted Hall and Elsenham

Stansted Hall and Elsenham got off to the best possible start, recording their first 20 points of the new season, crushing the Hurricanes by 6 wickets with just 11.3 overs of a possible 24 completed. Stansted Hall looked backed up their bowlers with some sharp fielding and held their catches to skittle the Hurricanes for just 29 and then took just over 3.3 overs to knock it off.

Bishops Stortford vs Dunmow

This was the game that set the afternoon alight. Dunmow posted 101 in their first innings and seemed to adapt very quickly to the indoor surroundings with Alex Pierson making a very nice 23. In reply, Stortford started slowly but picked up the run rate throughout and took it right down to the last over. 19 for the win, 18 for the tie....... 17 is what they got with opening bowler Oscar Letch holding his nerve despite some good batting and running to see Dunmow sneak over the line by just 1 run in a magnificent game.

Manager Danny Sperling said "I was really proud of them and their attitude not having played indoor or that format before".

HECCSport Tornados vs Hoddesdon

The last game of the evening picked up where the game before had left off in terms of drama. After losing the toss and being stuck in to bat, the Tornados got off to a slow start due some good opening bowling Mamadou Jobe and new addition George Coote, but the Tornados fought back in the middle overs and posted the highest score of the day with 103. In reply, Coote once again starred with the bat scoring a good 17 and recieved good support from fellow opener Carter Bridges. HECCSport took late wickets towards the end and it was left to young spinner McKinley (18) to knock off the winning runs with 2 balls to spare.
