One of our students exhibiting 'ippon-seoi-nage' (one arm over the back throw, or one arm shoulder throw). We sometimes use the crash mat for students to reduce the impact on body during training. What's good about this throw is that the student has an excellent pick up and his partner ends up 180 degrees from where he stood - but now on the ground!

Tai-otoshi, or hand body-drop is one of the first throws that we learn in judo and it is one that takes a while to master. Here is a compilation done by Judo Spirit on some recent examples of the throw used in competition by international competitors - awesome to watch! Some use variations of the throw, such as using two hands to grab their opponent's sleeve to provide more turning power. Enjoy!

Tai-otoshi, "hand body-drop" is one of the first throws we learn in judo; it is also one of the hardest to master - here's a compliation from Judo Spirit of ten tai-otoshis in recent competitions. They include variations on the theme in which competitors use a double handed grip on the one sleeve of the opponent. These international competitors are amazing to watch!

Judo means 'the easy way' - a martial art and Olympic sport that teaches us how to use the opponent's momentum, size, and even strength against them ... or as we say, 'you want to go that way, I'll help you!'

Judo is more than a sport though - it teaches respect at its core. Respect for the opponent, respect for self, respect for judo. It is also great fun being able to imbalance and opponent, learn how to move more effectively, and to build confidence in our own abilities.

At the Heights, Thursday evenings, 7:15 till 9pm, we have three coaches with decades of experience between us (I don't dare count ...) We enjoy working with juniors and seniors - beginners or experienced - we have a family atmosphere, we have fun, and we learn how to grapple, to fall properly, and to throw and opponent.

Interested? Send a PM or come along on a Thursday for a chat and review of what we do! Alex
