What a fantastic day for the naming and launching of our St Ayles skiff, Cluaran — the Gaelic word for thistle 🌿

The weather was absolutely perfect, and it was wonderful to see so many people there, both familiar faces and new ones. A huge thank you to the Ardentinny Ukulele Band, who did us proud with their brilliant entertainment and music as Cluaran was officially launched.

Here are a few photos from the day, with many more to follow over the next few days once we’ve had time to sort through them!

🚣✨ A wee reminder that Sunday 14th June is shaping up to be a very special day at the Holy Loch Sailing Club as we celebrate the Naming & Launching Ceremony of our brand new St Ayles Skiff! ✨🚣

The event is open to all club members, friends, and members of the local community, and we’d love to see as many people as possible come along and join the celebrations as we officially launch this exciting new addition to both the club and our wider community.

🍔 The bar will be open, with delicious burgers and hot dogs available from 12:30pm
⛵ The ceremony begins at 2:00pm

There’ll be fantastic live entertainment from the brilliant Ardentinny Ukulele Band 🎶 plus face painting by the wonderful Painted with Patience 🎨 for the wee (and maybe not so wee!) ones — making it a brilliant afternoon out for all the family.

We’ve also been kindly loaned a wonderful set of display boards chronicling the history of Robertson’s boat building yard in Sandbank, which will be available to view in the clubhouse throughout the day.

In addition, we have been permanently loaned the original bell from Robertson’s boat yard — the very bell once used to signal the start and end of shifts for the workforce. We’re honoured to be unveiling it for the first time as part of this special occasion.

Our beautiful new skiff has been built over the winter months by dedicated club members alongside members of the local community. This project has brought people together from all backgrounds, and we’re incredibly proud to finally see the boat ready to take to the water.

The skiff will be used for both recreational and competitive rowing, creating exciting new opportunities on the Holy Loch for years to come.

Weather permitting, we’re also hoping to welcome members of Royal Gourock Sailing Club, who may bring one or even both of their skiffs along for the occasion. Royal Gourock have been hugely supportive of our build team throughout the entire project, and we’re extremely grateful for all their help, encouragement and advice along the way.

Please come along, bring your friends and family, and help us celebrate this fantastic achievement for the club and the wider community.

We can’t wait to see you there! 💙
